Snow thawing and raining but the side roads are still slippery where they've not been gritted, 3c.

Thaw starting ,but our lane is still icy, as we don't get much traffic being as it's a dead end. IMG_20180303_121041_hdr.jpg

Has anybody seen a postman this week?
I've not had one single letter, not even the usual junk mail and other rubbish they deliver these days.
Could it be, that as the royal mail only seem to issue them shorts these days they have all shrivelled up and gone on strike.

Likewise the refuse collectors, only doing main roads?

I've seen a few postmen out and about. They have all been wearing shorts, and looking far too cheerful about it.

Almost 10 degrees this afternoon and sunny. Yep, the postie has called but a parcel is overdue.
Shelves empty down here too.....as always, some have over bought and some are without!
Fun whilst snow lasted, two days, but better now it has gone :)

Got our first post delivery today, not had any since Tuesday. Things gradually returning to normal.

Our boiler failed early Thursday morning ; numerous kettles to thaw the outdoor condensate pipe.. extracted a 2 foot 'plug' of solid ice clear enough to put in your drink !
I wouldn't have minded so much if the pipe hadn't been facing due east , with a fifty mph gale and a windchill approaching -12C . Bloody freezing to say the least . That's with pipe lagging !
Living in rural Lincolnshire , our fortnightly 'shop' normally involves a 45 mile round trip , so we always stock up with everything for the two freezers , plus perishables for the fridge .
The forecast as it was , why is there always this 'grab what you can' syndrome better known as 'panic-buying' ? We havn't been near a supermarket for over a week now .
Don't people watch the weather for the week-ahead ?

Well hopefully on a slow thaw now.. It was beautiful to look at.. Fun for some.. Nightmare for others..

I have farmers in my family and this week has been very difficult long and hard week for them..

The wind blowing the snow made for great drifts and snow caves as well as some places looked as though we hadn’t had any. The wind plays games with it and just plain picturesque..

All credit due and thanks to local farmers around the UK who have assisted in this difficult week .
Side roads still terrible (E.Lincs), but main roads drying and a thaw going to set in from tonight .

Our neighbouring farmer has been out with his tractor and huge bucket clearing our historic drifts. Thank god as our council is completely overwhelmed with trying to get to all sorts of people snowed in. When I can get to the shops I will be getting a large bottle of Croft Original, the farmer's tipple to say thank you to him.

Panic buying...pure madness. We haven't shopped for almost a fortnight now....ran out of milk a few days ago....but that's not a problem as we just about get through a pt a week anyway.

My niece had problems trying to find disposable nappies for her baby yesterday!!!

Times like these are good for finally using up all the dodgy ice encrusted lurkers in the freezer!!:snorky:
