So are there any garden centres in Tottenham then?

Well, I'm hearing reports of copy cat rioting in other town and cities on the TV. Croydon is in need of a make over but not in this way. I understand that the Police are caught between a rock and a hard place, because if they go in too hard or too soft they'll be criticised.

But it does seem that they have been standing by watching as the thugs rob, set fire to and vandalise property. What's being said is that the Police don't have the resources to handle such incidents. Is that the truth or just an excuse for the mishandling of the situation.?? It's not the first time where we've seen incidences of the Police standing by and watching the events unfold and doing nothing about it.

London's burning, in more ways than one:mad:

Pete, I have colleagues and team mates living all over South East London and Kent.

Bromley is now kicking off. If I drive for 15 mins in any direction, I'll hit a police cordon.

Would you prefer me to cry? That's not me.

I got home yesterday. This stuff has apparently been happening for 3 days now.
The Prime Minister has only now considered it serious enough to cut short his vacation.
    Boris is still away.
The top brass at the Met all resigned because of corruption.

Now London's youth have decided to nick everything they can carry.

If I cant laugh now, when can I?

I think when you look at the people that appear to be doing "most" of the looting /rioting you can totally understand why the police are not intervening.

      Its a PC nightmare.

      No pun intended.

Melinda, you can laugh as loud as you like, as soon as they have burnt YOUR house down.

There are apparently large numbers of young children out on the streets watching the older ones trash things. Basically the police are dealing with large numbers of ferals who have offspring with less thought than the rest of give to getting a hamster and then let their kids wander around like strays. I do hope we don't have too many well-meaning types going on about the need for more youth clubs etc.

I don't think Melinda is "laughing" in the way you think, Pete. There are some times when it is easier to "laugh" than cry.

I understand the strains and dangers for the Police in riot circumstances. But the thugs do seem to be able to do as they want while the Police watch, not a good public image. And I've said before this is not the first instance of the Police taking a passive role. Assurances coming over the air such a "Yes, it's true the Police are under resourced, but I have everything confidence that they are doing the best they can". Is he just arrogantly stupid?, everyone can see that their best isn't good enough in riots like this.

If the police can't handle it-it's time to bring in the army!

              Ive condemned the criminality Pete.

It may have started with black kids, but Enfield, Bromley and Croydon are mostly white.
Police dont usually hold off on black kids, so what's your point?

These arent race riots. Its recreational and opportunistic looting.

Police are doing a decent job considering they have been stretched so thin.
They've been using a snatch squad strategy most of the day.
Though I can see water cannons being top of the list in the next procurement round.

It'll be interesting to see if the government goes on cutting the number of police now. Apparently it is keen to see the book thrown at the louts who are are doing this. Slight problem, then: only a few months ago dear old Ken Clarke was blathering on about how we were locking up far too many nice misunderstood people who really should be back out in the jolly old community robbing and pillaging. He took to visiting drug pushers in prison and nodding sagely when they told him that, really, they shouldn't be inside because it was damaging their fragile psyches. Get out of this one, Ken, you daft old b***er.

That's the problem, people are seeing how busy the police are and then thinking- I might have a go myself.

Its got nothing to do with youth clubs or politics. The so called 'community leaders' who are certain to crawl out of the woodwork to put this on cuts or the economy are charlatans.

This is kids on holiday 'having a laugh' and getting one over on the police.

This isnt deprivation, its excitement and criminality.

If there's one thing I would resist in the stopping of riots it's bringing in the Armed Forces. The Armed Forces principal duty is to defend the UK from external threats. It was not created to be used against it's own people. So, unusually for you, Sheal, you've missed the point.
Civilian Law Enforcement organisations were created to defend the population internally within the country, and if those organisations fail to do so because they're under resourced, or have policies that dictate they just stand by while buildingS burn, and then knock on doors to collect the miscreants for "justice to be served" then we need to bring that into the light and change the thinking. Weak Leaders, PC organisations, under resourcing of the Police and associated organisations, and a regime of "watch it all burn and then do something", and our own apathy, is a sign that there is something drastically wrong with our Politicians, but we knew that anyway, didn't we??:wallbang::mad:
