Only thing I picked up from Mother (from Nuneaton/Cannock area) was
    "Tong" instead of "Tongue"

Got over all the Bath, castle, Grass pronunciations.

Although born in Essex I have a London accent. If it's possible, I sound like a posh cockney. My parents are Londoners, my mum was born in the Old Kent Road area, my dad, Streatham, when it was a posh area. I picked a lot of the Londoners sayings up throughout my childhood as well as the rhyming slang. :)

I'm boringly RP these days, possibly with a hint of Leicestorr overlaid. I come over all Welsh again when I'm back in the Land of My fathers. Despite being so respectable I love swearing and foul language of all description (not in front of the children, of course.) So satisfying and expressive. But I also have an extensive vocabulary of non-swear words too.

'Received Pronunciation': a quaint, mostly outmoded, idea that there is a 'correct' way of speaking and everyone else is somehow wrong. It's not much good for selling anything these days, as people find it off-putting. If you want to flog something which needs a reliable, dependable image, you're better off with a Yorkshire voice or a Scots one.

Have to be The George Dai, barred from all the others :D

Its got a little beer garden by the river, which is nice, you can watch the fish eating ducklings whilst basking in the evening sun.

Oh no, wait, October, it'll be dark then, prawn nets off the pier & some takeouts:thumbsup:

:D Distinctly plummy/ smooth RP Im afraid! I'll admit to consciously trying to broadening it out in my teens.
I longed for a regional accent, a soft Exeter or Durham lilt. :)

However, I can slip into Dartford/ Sahf Landahn vernacular when pushed. Blindin!'

Did else anyone catch the wonderful Miriam Margolyes on Radio 4 recently? She is the product of the union between a Scot and a Jew and can slide between the two accents with spooky aplomb, as well as doing any number of other voices.

She used to do a lot of kids' stuff, like Jackanory and more recently Harry Potter. She hates children :heehee:. The child actors on Harry Potter were, she said, just about bearable because they were nicely brought up middle class kids. She couldn't have abided the Rough Stuff :heehee:.

He used to describe himself as an ex barrow boy who was practising to be a dirty old man. So he is clearly an aristo who is slumming it. Pseuds. Sheesh.
