My accent's a real conglomerate. A touch of lancastrian, a smidgin of surrey and a teeny bit of scots. Some english folk think I sound scottish, some scottish folk think I sound australian! American women thing I sound lovely!!
      Foreigners think I sound understandable.

Been weeding today so now off for a bath. That's an A as in ass, not A as in ar....

Although I moved from North London thirty years ago, I think still have a London accent. I haven't picked up the local 'carrot crunching Dorzet accent'.

Well I grew up in East London and had a strong cockney accent which I think I have lost a bit now, when we first moved to Surrey people used to say "Oh you don't come from round here do you" and my next door neighbour listened to me chatting for a few moments and then said " Do you know, I haven't understood a word you said"!! :loll:So I suppose I am now London accent smoothed over a bit, although 'yes' still comes out as 'yeah'

Ziggy, the island has a famous pub called the Creg-ny-Baa. Nothing to do with sheep though......the ny is pronouced ner.

Are you rowing at Henley this year, Melinda? I'm considering popping along and taking out a second mortgage on a Pimms. :heehee:

Living in the West of Scotland, our language is guttural - not the singing of the Fifers & East Coasters, and we don't have the lilt of the more southern shires (ie Dumfries..) But I don't sound like a Glaswegian, we pronounce our "A"s as "A" not "e" as they do in Glasgow. (Ayrshire rather than ershyre)
I would say things like "Am awo' oot the bok t' clean ma shin" (Im going out the back, to clean my shoes)
Yin, Twa, Fouwer, seavin, eeleevin (1,2,4,7,11)
All samples of local tattie howker lingo ;)
Local folk include Jim McColl (of Beechgrove Gardens) yes, a guid Killie man, not from Aberdeen, and thanks to BBC1 Scotland's documentery "The Scheme" about drugs etc, we've been put on the map for all the wrong reasons!

Oh and Americans always think Im Irish :D

We're deep in the countdown to the Women's Regatta now- just days away :) Its a stepping stone for junior crews, we're competing all the way through to the world champs this August in Slovenia. We've been at full pelt for a while now.

Henley is definitely an event for tailgating Clare! Bring your own Pimms and eat in the car park! :D
