Socks on the mantlepiece: should I be upset?

    :D My son genuinely sees no problem with having dirty clothes strewn all over the floor, or having a wash area which smells like a particularly unhealthy swamp. He is perfectly happy to live like this. I think most of his age group feels the same way. I went to see my step-son's new flat the other day. He was quite content to show us around a bedroom which looked as though a small explosion had taken place in the middle of the floor. In a way, I'm envious. Think of all the extra time you'd have if you genuinely didn't care ...

    My teenage son's bedroom is the same Clare, he can't see the point in spending valuable sleeping time in tidying up. Things get lost in his bedroom for years and his piles of clothes are now forming coal layers.
