I've appreciated everyone's responses and would love to go for the solar option still so I may experiment a bit - can't hurt!

Maybe we can keep posting our results with solar features. I'm aiming to do something with an old wine barrel so will let you know.

The thing I love about this site is someone will always respond to your query.

Yep, water-garden, I've seen one of them at Teviot Smokery and Water Gardens near Kelso.

They have it in one of their fish ponds and I wondered if it would be effective in a small wildlife pond (no fish) to oxygenate the water instead of a mains pump. An employee there explained it was just a novelty really and showed how just by waving his hands between the feature and the stream of sunlight how it lost power.

I'm still going to investigate further the solar option.

May I also suggest that when you underline things but especially when you print in bold type and capital letters it is generally perceived on the internet as the equivalent of shouting. Just something I thought I'd mention so that ideas can be shared without anyone being (accidentally) offended.

TO you would not need to oxygenate a wildlife pond once planted up it will balance itself out,I found with mine it stayed crystal clear but my other pond needed filtration to keep it clear due to the nitates produced by the fish wastes.

Thanks but i already knew that. (and capitals is shouting) I did not underline it, the forum software does because its a hyperlink.

eg, i have just quoted you and it will be in bold, other forums it will be in a big white box.

    Edited to add:

    I just noticed the forum software ads [Q B] and [/Q B]

Just a thought, but I have a mains 240volt pump. (cant remember the litreage)
It probably pumps a bit too much when everything is clean, but after a while things start to clog up a bit and the performance of the pump suffers.
So if the pump is just about managing when clean it may well stop altogether if it doesn't have enough ooooommpphh to start with.

That will happen to almost any pump in a pond, you are supposed to keep it clean, other thing is if you do have a small fountain, quite often the nozzle jets can get slightly blocked, but again these should be cleaned.

Have to agree with buying a bigger pump though, you can always turn a big pump down, you can not turn a small pump up

You might not have underlined anything but you did choose to write IN CAPS in one post and in bold in another. I think that is what is being referred to.

Perhaps if you insert some smiles and things (as opposed to banging your head against the wall at me) it will look less agressive and make you appear less patronising.

I take it some do not believe me about much change from £600 to buy a good quality solar pump and solar panel?

Sorry, but its true, see here

This is a "proper" solar pump and panel unlike the lily pad type one which some one (not me) was told its more a novelty than anything else.

This post contains both bold (the word not) and caps (the words THIS LINK) and headbanging...

This post contains bold (the word trying)...

I don't take offence easily, but it really did come across as agressive to me

    Do you mean me?
Just because that one costs more, doesn't mean they all do!
This is the one I have http://www.worldofwater.co.uk/shop/item.asp?itemid=269 - I'm sure mine was more like £40 - £60, though.
If Ã?£520-odd change isn't much to you, please do feel free to send it to me though... [IMG]

Let me see if i have got this right you said
    But then you said

So you are saying that to you, writing one word in bold (because as you so rightly pointed out, it was only just one word) is a reason to think my post is agressive?

Please this is a forum, I always thought it was to help people, now whinge and moan about one word in bold (or capitals)
