Sorry to remind everyone...

Sorry to say it everyone, but not one Cordyline lost here on the island. My Escallonia hedge had suffered a bit but no real damage done.

Being a small island surrounded by sea it is much warmer in the winter. Although we get some heavy duty frosts we haven't seen heavy snowfall for fifteen years.

To even it up, our summers tend to be wetter with lower temperatures than most other places though.

 

Unfortunately, it doesn't have a smell according to this

I've made a list using their site, for all their roses that get 3/3 for smell. So I hope it's accurate! I've got 44 listed, to prune down to half a dozen or so for next year.

 

We went to the local rose specialist and had a wander around their "show field" (just rows of roses being field-grown for sale) and choose the two rose varieties for our rose bed. Scent was a key point, as well as colour (broke off a flower from one, and compared it side-by-side with the others), and height - a taller one at the back, shorter in front.

We bought Just Joey and Chandos Beauty in the end (and a climbing variety the name of which escapes me at the moment)

Dunno if you are anywhere near a rose grower, but I recommend that to help you choose. There are no doubt rose gardens that you could go to instead of growers.
