I think there are only 2 native one in the Uk, urtica dioca, the common nettle and urtica urens, the small nettle. Both of which you can use.

There are some nettles, I believe in India that can kill you and another that can make you burn for a year, so go steady there

I'm not sure, I dont take much notice of nettles down here other when I was a kid (coz they hurt) and walking the dog across a local nature walk, I'm sure i've seen three, The stinging nettle and the false one both have white flowers, but I'm sure I've seen blue flowering ones, but I dont know what they are........I "might" take the dog and the camara over tomorrow and see whats growing wild:dbgrtmb:

Ok ziggy I've been out today inbetween slight showers n got the blood n bone dug in and planted out the corn, I put 19 plants in so hope to get atleast a few.....

I'm slowly clearing rubbish and planting what I can, I've a pile of old blocks that I've dug out n stacked them as a boundery of the peas, in the corner is growing this.....

It looks like a Nettle coz of the leaf but is soft and does'nt sting, I cant find a photo of it on google when I put in the two plant names you said, any ideas? I've got a few of them but not many, So I started weeding around Nettles:rolleyespink: I've only got one patch of stinging nettles....

So I'll have to look after them, then I cut the edge of the veg patch....

But best of all, whilst tiding up I needed to tie the peas, never grown them before and had built a frame from the hedge I cut in Feb this year, but they were'nt climbing on it as I think I put the seeds further away from the from the frame than needed, I just got some string and pulled the plants into the frame in clumps, but then I noticed these...

They taste fantastic:yess: tho not many yet, so fingers crossed for a good crop, on peas and Nettles:D please let me know if my "other Nettle" aint a Nettle and I'll have them out, I'm sure I dont have enough in the garden to make your liquid feed, but I've got wild areas outside my boundary that I'll check out tomorrow:WINK1:

      Looking good there PP:thumbsup:

      Good news about the peas.

The purple flowered on is Hedge Woundwort. The White flowered ones you saw were white dead nettles, there is a red dead nettle too, not sure about the blue one but that may be Bugle.

Those are all Labiatae family(the mint family) They mimic the true nettles so that animals think they sting & avoid eating them.

If You can get some pics i'll try to help ID the others that you've seen:)

Thanks ziggy, it all seems to be doing ok and easer than I first thought at the begining of the year, its just working out how much to plant I struggle with coz I have no idea of how much each plant will produce? I've seeded 250 of those pea seeds lol but from Biolegy school days I think I remembered they nitrogen fix! or do something like that thats good for the soil.

So the Hedge woundwort needs to come out then? its a weed and of no use? these Nettles pretending to be Nettles is all very confussing:rolleyespink: I'll post up when I think I've found some more:WINK1:

      Thanks for the help:thumbsup:

Hedge Woundwort contains a fair bit of tannin and is usefull to staunch bleeding when your arm has just been severed in battle.
