Shiney's (photo from 2013 - looked more similar this year than this photo does ... but this year's Chelsea photo, and the plant, were compared at the same point in the "growing season" so to speak)

Your close-up from Chelsea looks very similar to our tree when looked at in that detail but the growing habit is totally different.

      https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=i...U_7TLsPPObmsgDg&ved=0CC4QsAQ&biw=1024&bih=726

The only photo I can find, at the moment, is this one taken in Feb '12 where it shows the prostrate growing habit. The tall dark looking upright growth behind it (top left) is another conifer. What appears to be a short trunk of the tree (a third of the way in from bottom left) is a support we put in otherwise it would be lying along the ground.

        Agreed.

Propagate it. Get Plant Breeders Rights. Flog it as "Abies shineii". Retire :heehee:

There's only one problem (just one?) with that plan. I'm already retired :old: :heehee:

Alright, so I don't know how to propagate it, either! :what:

It originally was a present for Mrs Shiney from my cousin who had a small nursery and it was given to him as a present from Alan Bloom. I don't know where Alan got it from.

Make a nice sharp cut half way through a young branch then try to secure a bag of moist compost to it then wrap in cling film to hold it tight,it'll maybe need a bit of support,it will also take time to show roots but it can be done:thumbsup:...that's what my Dad has done before today:dbgrtmb:

Any bags left around or tied to anything are removed by the wildlife - usually squirrels or some of the larger breed of bird!

This is the current situation of the second picture down (above) :blue thumb:
