I agree about the daffs, too, but my favourites in the Spring are tulips. There are so many different ones from tiny to tall and the colours and forms are so varied.

My favourite flower is the simple primrose. The wild form is so beautiful and simple when you look at it and with such a sweet scent. I have grown many other primroses and are very fussy about what i grow but the wild form is a my fave. I think it is because i grew up on a huge horrible council estate in Greater Manchester. There were no wild flowers, a huge area had been cleared for this post war estate that was one of the biggest in Europe. So I was quite old when i first saw primroses growing in the wild and i moved to a rural county where we do have lovely wild flowers....I hate cities.
Running them close is the Himalayan blue poppy, either Meconopsis betonicifolia or Meconopsis grandis. I grow both and collect my own seed. The first time one opened its flowers, I had never seen one in the flesh so to speak, I was speechless, and I just kneeled on the lawn looking at it for ages. Notice they are all wild species. My favourite lily is Lilium regale - the wild one that was discovered in China. I must be a back to nature boy really. That is what comes of being born in a big city.

If you grew a grape vine, perhaps you could get a little wine? Sorry, that's as close as I can get... :D

Hard to say a favourite, but I bought and planted a rose yesterday called "Alba plena" which has a beautiful scent, so for the moment it's near the top of my list. In general I'm not mad on roses but there were several here when I moved in, despite the garden having been neglected for years. They mostly went, being on their last legs anyway and in places where I wanted to put other things, but I did try to move one beautifully scented yellow and pink one, which then unfortunately died too - call me sentimental, but I just wanted to keep some continuity in the garden, so I'm having another go. I love jasmine, clematis (pretty much any kind), sweet peas and peonies too though, and violas....
