    quote Pete
"Jack, what you are saying is they could give me anyones prescription and in time my brain would adjust:biggrin:
Wouldn't half put a lot of opticians out of business if that was a fact.:snorky:"

No, one is Focus, and that depends on the lens, one is actual vision/position

Apparently the brain adjusts to what it knows/expects to see
It knows the sky is not down on the ground so turns the image to display what it expects
a bit like people seeing faces, on toast/tiles/sky Just as new cameras have face recognition

      Hi Pete,

Have you taken them back yet ?

It could be a simple problem such as the lenses are put in the wrong side of the frame. Or the lens is not quite fined down to the right percentage.

The one thing that bothers me though is that it sounds like you are closing your eyes and moving the script around. A pair of spectacles is just that,.... a pair..... meant to be used with both eyes open and the script held still at a distance from you that feels comfortable.

Not had chance to take them back yet Anthony.

I'm closing one eye because they are focusing at different distances.
True, there does seem to be this very defined point where both lenses are in focus but its only at a very set distance, difficult to describe.

I'm thinking of just handing them my existing reading glasses and telling them to make the lenses the same as them,......... as to the distance pair, they are doing something similar, but its not quite as noticeable, but I can read my laptop screen with the distance ones.
Can only read the laptop with one eye using the readers.

I only really went for an eye test to get my eyes checked, but as usual with these people, they always say you need new glasses, so I'm £300+ worse off and boss eyed.

I don't know where you went Pete but I went to Boots last Saturday for an eye test and because I had a floater in one of my eyes I wanted checking (have to live with it until it goes of its own accord:sad:) Anyway had the eye test plus had a free retinopathy test done (photo taken of the back of both eyes) and then had three webcam photos taken of the three pairs of glasses I quiet liked but couldn't decide which pair to go for, plus got £50 off with a voucher they sent me last week plus got another 25% off I assume because they think I am 60 (no I am not:snork:)and I was in there for 1and 3/4 hours (good job I put two hours on the car parking:snork:) all for the princely sum of £255 for verivocals plus when I go to pick up the glasses they are going to give me a voucher which I can use within 3 months to get money off a new pair of sunglasses:hapydancsmil:

Sorry to hear of your bad experience,I had a similar problem years ago with Specsavers glasses and also had the glass fall out of them as we were walking along the pavement round the village so I changed to Boots and have been pleased with the service I receive from our local branch although my only complaint was they were a bit understaffed so everything was slower.Might have been quicker in the week:snorky:

Hope you manage to get your problem sorted ASAP:smile:

              Hi Kandy,

Like you I only ever use Boots. I don't know whether yours is the same as ours but the Opticians in ours is an independent franchise so you have the best of both worlds...... An excellently trained independent with high street prices, guarantees etc.

I've used Specsavers in the past but they and Boots involve town parking, which I find a real pain unless you get there before 9am on a Saturday.
So tried a smaller out of town Optician that I last used about 10yrs ago.

Last time at Specsavers I got a wonky pair of frames that needed repairing due to the fact they gave me the actual pair that was on display.
They had obviously been tried on by all and sundry before muggins came along and bought them.
I thought at the time I would be getting a pair the same design, not that actual pair on display.
How wrong I was, and was told it was how they did business, when I complained.

Yep, floaters made me go get my eyes checked also.

Yes Anthony our local Boots is a franchise and the service I get is second to none and they even had another lady come over to measure the distance between my two eyes plus they even get the pads right so they don't cause discomfort.:hapfeet:

I wish I had seen Martin this week as I want to have a word with him about getting some eye protection that I can use when I ride my push bike because I suffer from runny eyes (tears) when I go out on my bike and I get fed up with having one hand on the handle bars and the other hand with a bit of tissue for dabbing my eyes.I think I need something that the divers wear that would encase my glasses and not let any air in then my eyes wouldn't stream so much.It has ruined one of my favourite activities because of that problem:sad:

I use an independent (personal reasons)
I had used Boots, after two years the leg broke off my frameless glasses (metal fatigue)
I went down on the Sunday and they were closed so I went to my independent and had a retest and bought frameless again
I went into Boots on the Monday and showed them what had happened, on Wednesday they phoned me, to pick up a brand new replacement pair
Now when I had the prescription originally it took them a week, I returned them broken and they replaced the whole lot within 24 hours ??? NOT using my old lenses as I had them with me

                    Just an update.
Went into the opticians this morning.
They had a look and tried a lense in front of my reading glasses that seemed to improve the view in my left eye.

So they are going to make me some new lenses, 0.5 less on my left eye and 0.25 less on my right eye.
So we will see next week.

Not sure: wouldn't it depend upon who "these people" were?
Clearly the people who take the eye test are highly qualified/skilled and those who make up the prescription to those specifications we would expect to be highly qualified/skillrd/use cutting edge equipment ... but, my impression of Pete's dilemma was ... the staff handing out the prescribed glasses made the comment re: give it a few days ... brain/eye communication/adjustment.

Now, I might agree with you 100% if the staff on the shop floor held those same skills/qualifications as those a) doing the eye test; and b) making up the prescriptions ... but I think @pete was only referring to the shop assistant (I may be wrong and will stand corrected) whose qualifications and skill base may not equal that of the professionals.

Must admit that after todays experience I do think they know what they are doing, both shop staff and in the back room.
I was sceptical after what I was told last week when I picked the new glasses, but there was no quibbling today, as soon as I said I had a problem they immediately took it seriously.

As I say, hopefully next week I will know.
