its a great idea webmaster, but it seems we cant win anyway, what ever we do.

kandy, I,m certainly at my age not going to a naughty school, no offence, I think that there is more people on the roads that should be going there, I certainly havnt committed a great crime other than doing a few mph over a limit that has just recently changed to suit the government and i,m sure other people in my situation feel the same way.

Rosa I really do feel for you seems just too silly for words.

My eldest son has been a victim of crime twice in the last couple of years.

The first one was when he was travelling through a village when youths threw stones at his car as he and his gf passed by, he stopped to give them a telling off.
One started to get violent so he pinned the youth against a wall while his gf phoned the police out of nowhere 10 more youths came out and gave him an terrible beating Dan's 6ft and very built but they still kicked him onto the ground and made a right mess of him!

The cowards even started smashing up his car trying to get at his gf!

The police found the main person after a time and guess what he got? nothing but a smack on the hand as the youth had already had ASBO's, oh I tell a lie he was fined £100 for the damage he did to Dan....needless to say the youth was a foreigner.

The other crime Dan had against him was again with the same car and that was getting it nicked from outside his place of work, there was all sorts of stuff inside his car chocolate bars and some nasty stuff etc. We didn't want to claim off Dans insurance has it was his first year and would have cost a bomb the following year for him, so we had to wait for the police to get finger prints etc out of the car which took forever and we even had to pay for the storage from the salvage yard that took his car I think we ended up paying £250 just to get his car back and what about the person who stole it I hear you ask? Not a darn thing!

helen, that is teribble these youths of today are getting worse they have no regard for anyone and they get away with it.
we have had our tyres on a car we had a few years back slashed, and called the police and nothing was done about it.
I dont go out much in the car other than do my shopping locally and this only happened doing a friend a favour taking them to buy a new pc otherwise i would never have been on this dual carriage-way, makes me wonder all the money we pay out to keep a car on the road are they worth it at the end of the day.

I have no problem being fined for speeding or breaking the law on purpose.
My problem is I never no what speed I am supposed to be doing.
Gone are the days when it was more or less set out which kind of roads had which speed.
    Side roads 30
    Main roads 40
    Dual carrageways 40 / 50
    Etc.
I do a lot of driving in places I don't no well.
When you have 30 speed limits on dual carrageways then 40 on a side roads.
    30 on a main road.
Looking for addresses and trying to watch traffic , it all gets a bit  .
Even when I see a speed camera if I have missed the tiny sign earlier on while looking where I am going I have no idea what I should be doing .
So drop down to 30 , just incase then get flashed and papped at.

Why don't they put the speed limits bigger or on the back of the cameras.
I have been caught once 3 years ago when a 40 on a dual carrageway was changed to a 30.

The soulution is not to speed unless your sure of the road and if not to keep your eye out. Other than a traffic light offence now elapsed my licence is clean.

That said on the motorway i do tend to drive were safe with an extremly heavy foot.

If ever I were to get caught then I would certainly invest in a detector systme and possibly even a blocker. Probably sooner rather than later!

I try so very hard not to speed (that's when I'm well enough to drive)but it's really hard to keep within some speed limits.

I drive about 5mph faster than Bob but have noticed when I do indeed stick to the lower end speed limits I always get some nutter wanting to past me by or so close to my bumper that they can tell what radio station is showing on my stereo display!

I think young male drivers get such a bad rap as most of the bad drivers I encounter on the roads are young women or twenty something mothers that really should know better.

On slightly different note, I am one of the brigade that believe the National speed limit should be raised to 80mph (at least).

The national speed limit has stayed the same for a considerable time, and does not reflect the progress in vehicles ie better tyres, braking systems, suspension etc etc , all this makes the vehicles stop a lot better, I do however understand that the 'Humans' reaction times, have not changed, so stopping distances overall will have changed, but not reaction times.

From what I have heard, the Highway codes stopping distances were set with the use of a Ford Anglia, whether this is another Urban myth or true, I do not know, but sounds feasible.

    A bit heavy maybe ?

Does anyone know why they do this, build bigger wider roads, then slap a 30 sign up, hatch a big bit out, stop all overtaking.
They are wasting our money, we may as well just have country lanes in many cases.
A recently built dual carriageway around here is a 30 limit, its got cameras, and at 30 you feel like you've stopped almost.

What is the point of having a dual carriage way with a speed limit of 30 arent dual carriage ways supposed to be for at least 50 or 60 mph and the max speed of 70, i can not see the point in spending our money on putting something like that which is not needed by the sounds of if cos if it was the limit would be more than 30. wouldnt it????????

I don't know why they have speed limits at all just let everyone charge round at whatever speed they like, probably the motoring populous would halve in a few weeks and it would reduce the traffic jams

walnut, the trouble with that is you would find it slowing you down because of having to weave between all the wrecks. You only really want them to get rid of the speed limit so that you don't get caught again for speeding on your bike :D :D

Coming back from Heathrow last week we joined the M25 and the only sign we saw was 'variable speed limit' NO speed limit sign nor for the next 4 miles. How do we know what it is? I've been caught once so didn't go over 40, sod the over drivers.
I was caught doing 36 in a 30 limit so it was my lack of concentration to blame, nothing else. :(
