If you typed it into Word first you could have both checkers :dbgrtmb: but I am dubious about the efficacy of it's grammar checker.

Well, if you remember the last system had the American Spell checker which I was always at odds with. This one is, I believe, an English Spell Checker [sings National Anthem] which is good for my soul.

It wasn't intended to be arrogant, merely an observation that most people here seem to have had the type of education which befits them to spell perfectly well without having to rely on a machine to do it for them.

A bit off topic but when my son was small I asked him to write a list of things to take on a school trip. Top of the list was 'biss-gits', closely followed by 'sam wigs'. He hasn't changed much over the years.

The trouble with spellcheckers is that they don't do much for your grammar. I'd like a system which sounded an ear-splitting alarm whenever the user confused 'its' with 'it's' , for example. OH has a thing about less and fewer. It's very easy to make a mistake when you're writing at speed and once errors are lurking in sentences they become very hard to spot. Call me a pedant (oops! Nearly wrote 'pendant'!!) if you like but I lost all faith in a government minister when he sent out a letter informing me that his department was 'affecting changes'. He turned out to be every bit as big a plonker as this small but significant error suggested.

Very often I type a correctly spelt random word (nothing like as described above) but so out of place I wonder who put it there. Fortunately I tend to pick these up whilst spell checking.

Mum taught me to read & write, which was just as well as I missed most of early school because of cats.

I still struggle with some words as Mum didn't really get much schooling herself. I'm with Armandii on the no spell checker though, especially not an American one.

Some things need to be spelt wrong occasionally. Skellington, spectaclier, blub, a owl:snork:

Being a gardening forum we must forget rhodadandrams - as a florist friend calls them.
