Sprouting Root Ginger

I remember hearing Bob Flowerdew (what ever happened to him?) talking about planting root ginger bought from the supermarket. I searched for a good one with the little 'knobs' on - but no success whatsoever.

Think I might try again - not planting so deep this time - and maybe go for an avocado and a date while I'm at it!

 

PeterS, thanks for the picture It looks quite similar in stature to a bamboo - not how I imagined it to look.
