We have lots of bees around but I don't know whether there are as many as last year. They're all over the Weigelias (we have lots of them) and the hundreds of Allium siculum that we have.

When the Jerusalem sage flowers (should have been in flower already but looks as though they'll be a couple of weeks yet) they'll have a field day :blue thumb:. As they each have at least three flower heads and each head has a dozen or more flowers we should have many thousand flowers for them to climb into.

Mrs Shiney always looks forward to that as they get their bodies inside the flower with their bums sticking out :heehee:. She then strokes them whilst they're busy and they don't seem to mind at all.

@Spruce I just thought I would post this email I received to day as its appertaining to this thread hope that is OK with you my friend:smile:

                      Dear Woo
The pressure to keep the ban on bee-killing pesticides is snowballing. 300,000 of us have signed the petition to Liz Truss, the minister in charge of deciding whether to let toxic pesticides back on UK fields. [1] Now it’s time to take our concerns straight to the heart of Parliament.

38 Degrees members are holding an event in Westminster to arm our MPs with everything they need to know about bees and bee-killing pesticides. Your new MP in Rochester and Strood is Ms Kelly Tolhurst MP. Once they hear directly from us and bee experts, our new MPs can put our concerns straight to Liz Truss. Let’s make sure everywhere she goes, all she hears is why she should protect bees.

The event’s in one week - on Wednesday 17th June at 7pm

Bees are at huge risk from powerful pesticides called ‘neonicotinoids’. Earlier this year an influential group of scientists concluded that these banned pesticides don’t just kill bees, they wreak “havoc” with other insects and plants in the countryside too.

People-powered campaigning helped get bee-killing pesticides banned across Europe in 2013. But the huge pesticide companies care about their profit margins more than our bees and countryside - and so they keep trying to get rid of the ban. Public pressure is crucial if we’re going to stop them.
The event is happening the night before Liz Truss has to answer her first questions in Parliament. So please can you send a quick email to invite your MP to the event today? Together we can make sure our MPs are standing up for bees and the future of our countryside - not the profits of toxic chemical companies:

The bid to bring bee-killing chemicals back to the UK is in its final stage. 38 Degrees members have already sent 84,000 emails to the ministers making the decision. And now the application to lift the ban on the bee-killing pesticides is sitting on their desks, they could make a decision at any moment!

                              Hi All,

I popped over just after 2.00 as the temp was high and looked like no rain.

When I parked the car I did hear a huge buzzing and thought swarm !!! oh was I right.

Just landed on the top of a hawthorn branch above the gate about 20 feet up , looked like a big brown rugby ball , so which hive , after doing checks on mine it has to be the guy I mentor .

The swarm is too far up to reach so , I shook the branch and I was covered head to toe in bees:hate-shocked: easily over two thousand ,as I was trying to dislodge the queen to a reasonable height for me to collect them not a good feeling believe me , but the queen was still up on the branch so after 5 mins all the bees back up with her and no harm done.

I may go back in a hour with a saw and cut the branch down and put them in my spare mini hive , I will take my camera as I know you all like a photo or two plus with it being late they should all pile in quickly.

                              Spruce
