I have been watching bees on the cranesbills today Only little bees but some of them carry such heavy suitcases -it wearies me just observing them.
    Question :
Why are some bees' bags creamy yellow and one today had deep orange bags. Like a free range hen's egg yolk?

was watching Jamie Oliver in Greece yesterday ... was sort of 'half watching', but think I heard that each bee only produces 1 gram of honey in it's life?

If true, that puts things in perspective

My Laburnum is totally alive with bees at the moment.
They are bumble bees, but early mornings before things get going and other noises start, the hum is very loud.
Remember the lavender hedge that a neighbour had years ago was always the same, full of bumble bees.
I think we just grow the wrong kinds of plants these days in general.
Too many bedding plants from foreign parts, (look whos talking:biggrin:), not enough of the old plants.

I've got about three different kinds of bees buzzing around, but not in the usual numbers, especially as there is a lot of Honesty, and other flowers open:dunno:

Loadsa bees out today!!:dancy: They love this cotoneaster. If you watch the flowers and allow your eyes to go out of sharp focus, you can just see all the bee movement. There are a hundred there today It has just started to flower and the sun has come out to play:yay: Bees on the cotoneaster 30 May 2012 002 (1024x768).jpg
