Shrinkflation, Toblerone shrank in weight by 25% with most chocolate bars shrinking on average by 14%, yet the price remained the same. ONS reported that 2,500+ goods, mainly food items had shrunk from January 2012 to June 2017
It's not always the producer that is responsible, retailers (supermarkets) are also instigators for shrinkflation. The supermarket that receives the most complaints regarding shrinkflation, Tesco.

It's like the multi packs, the contents are always smaller than if you buy a single item.
        MUST NOT BE SOLD SEPARATELY.

Yet, buy a can of pop from a takeaway and most of the time it will have, MUST NOT BE SOLD SEPARATELY. Cadbury's announced a few years ago that all their chocolate bars sold in multipacks would shrink to reduce their calorie count. All bars would not exceed 200 calories, bars sold individually would remain the same. Apparently the reduction in size of the multi pack bars is to tackle obesity.

I very much doubt it has anything to do with obesity.

I agree. But trouble is, if there was a government quango that ruled on things like that, they'd do half a job as usual and make it worse for everyone. I can think of two fairly recent examples of that.

First, it was ruled that car insurance companies were not allowed to offer cheaper deals to women. The idea being that gender shouldn't come into it, so if someone was deemed lower risk, they should get cheaper insurance. Great in principle, except all the insurance companies did, instead of fairly assessing risk, but the policies up for women.

More recently the FCA ruled that banks can't charge higher interest rates on unauthorised overdrafts than they do on authorised ones. The intention, to stop skint people being charged insane rates if they accidentally went overdrawn. The actual effect, charge the same extortionate rates on authorised overdrafts. Lucky for me it didn't matter as I rarely go overdrawn, but I imagine there were a lot of folks that were several grand overdrawn and paying about 15% who suddenly found they were paying 40% on it.

Because if there was a rule imposed that said you can't charge more for 450 grams than you do for 500 grams, the 450 one wouldn't become any cheaper, the bigger one would instantly become more expensive.

In this case the bigger one is not available ,but they are offering you a smaller one at a higher price.

Put the price up if you must but don't show something cheaper that is not available, it's rubbing your nose in it.
