I just love the Scottish people. you know was just there in August. It was a wonderful experience.

If some conversation rattles some other thought in my brain that I think would be of general knowledge for others, as relating experience or learned subject, I am putting it out there. Either you skim it over or you read it, whatever suites you.

Verdun - Your replies are great, it's interesting to have the elaboration & any possible explanations.. we all learn from experience & advice is always valued especially in gardening. Sometimes it requires context and the description of that, for example, soil types & location in the country etc, one reply may directly correspond to the original poster but not another forum member. It is never usually as straight forward as a definitive yes or no & therefore lengthy replies are always appreciated.

I think there was a direct answer to the question too though :)

Relating to it though some may have also benefitted from the additional information given.....win, win? :)

In my early days I would talk to some guys on the local allotments usually with one question in mind. Conversations resulted in further questions and I left with a whole bunch of useful info and grateful for it :)

I love reading posts in the Forums, and if they do wander a bit, then all to the good. If I want information I skim the responses and take notes from relevant answers, but some of the banter on here has me in stitches! I personally like things exactly as they are.

@Verdun: could sit and listen to your advice all day!
@Zigs, perhaps you'm should change your name to McZigs, so that it's clear that you are Scottish.
@redstar, Americans are pretty great too
@silu - my dad used to call me a blethering skite! Thank you for the reminder of my youth...

Yes, @Zigs , we are both gingers. Maybe that is why they were so sweet to me. Another possible distant relative. Reminds me----just sent in my DNA, so in 4-6 weeks, I will know extra stuff about me.

I can honestly say I don't think I have ever wandered off topic.

I know I have on many occasions, but usually after the OPs question has been answered.

Agreed :blue thumb: Yet, not all questions are gardening related ;) (yes, I'm being a pedant: bite me!)

However, before we even get to that point, I think the first thing to consider is: how to frame a question! :heehee:
An ill conceived question can lead to confusion, leaving the reader making assumptions and then the question doesn't really get answered and can go off in all sorts of directions totally unanticipated by the OP.
Preamble must also be taken into account if it is to be followed by the heart of the matter - *the* question. The tendency is for the reader to be distracted by the preamble so when it gets to the nitty gritty, the main focus has been lost.
