I think a slap would be quite acceptable in this weather.

    This bit is scary,

Glacial slowness? Cores drilled into the ice by the Greenland
Ice-Core Project (GRIP) show that all – all! – ice ages in the
past quarter-million years began incredibly fast. The climate
switched from conditions as warm as today – or even warmer -
into full-blown glacial severity in less than 20 years, sometimes
in as little as three years.

    Wow Man "Day After Tommorow"

Ziggy, if you keep this up you will be responsible for the government bringing an "Ice age tax" to run alonglide the "global warming tax".

Why is it we always need some kind of major threat, be it natural or man made, we have had the cold war, the hole in the ozone layer, global warming, climate change and the end of the world as we know it in 2012 and probably a few others over the years.

Methinks it keeps an awful lot of people in work.:skp:

OK the banks and money lenders were out of control, I agree.

But so were the"I want it now and must have it", public.

Its not a one sided issue and even a complete financial idiot like myself could see this coming, when joe public started borrowing amounts they couldn't pay back.
Irresponsible greedy people are the ones to blame, along with the lowest interest rates for years.
A sensible interest rate for investor and borrower is surely the best.

Backing up what i've been saying, have a look at this episode on the bbc i player,

    http://www.tvguide.co.uk/detail.asp?id=80567376

If it wasn't for the rise of agriculture with its accompanying greenhouse gasses, then the ice sheets would have rolled again & we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Some interesting updates here, and pics of the snow in New York.

    http://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMasters/comment.html?entrynum=1716#commenttop

"Since late November, we have been locked into a pattern featuring very weak low pressure over Iceland, and weak high pressure over the Azores--a strongly negative North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and Arctic Oscillation (AO). This pattern, which has allowed a lot of cold air to spill out of the Arctic and into the Eastern U.S. and Western Europe, is now breaking down and transitioning to a very different winter pattern. This new pattern will feature a more typical configuration for winter, with the Icelandic Low and Azores High close to their usual strengths. Today's Nor'easter managed to sneak in just as the atmosphere was transitioning from one major flow pattern to a new one, resulting in the rare La Niña snowstorm for New England. The new winter flow pattern looks to stay in place for at least the first two weeks of January, resulting in warmer than average winter weather for both the U.S. East Coast and Western Europe"

Well thats good news for all of us there then.

On another site, I read that the jet stream which should be over us at the moment is flowing over Gibraltar, which is part of the reason we have been exposed to the Artic air flow.
