We wonder if they can make these huge nests so quickly? My thought was the two of them grabbed their existing nest in now not-so-nice position and, one on either side, and physically moved it two blocks to the Modelo sign.

Could this be possible? If so, do I wish I was there with the camera ... ?

My pepper tree seedlings are doing well LOL, I'll give them a bit longer then post a pic.
    They seem fast growing.

Looking forward to that, pete ... if anyone could be successful if would be you! I wonder if it was the green or red berries that germinated as I sent both?

Good that they are fast growing unlike these slow growing pips and stones! [IMG]

N'er mind, pete, you're on your way to the end result ... and wouldn't you love to see one of those trees even if just in pots. They are so much more graceful than Jacarandas and Mimosas.

    Keep us posted!

I may go on my own early. Bob the Builder starts tomorrow noonish as well as Michael the Plumber and crew. Think they can get all the vans and trucks on the property! We're parking the car up on the "main" road! :D

    I'll remember the camera.

Off to Silves shortly to meet Mick and Aly at chicken ladies so may throw the camera in the car and do a fly past .... [IMG]

The camera did a wobbly on me .... I took half a dozen of the storks, there were three today, and lots of trees, shrubs, etc, as I wandered around and this is all I got ...

    Question ????

Do storks migrate and, if so, where to from here?

I've been meaning to ask this for weeks. All our storks have disappeared, the two pairs from our little town nearby, the two pairs plus from on top of the grocery store, all the ones from Silves and Portim£o. Where have they gone to?

    Thank you. [IMG]

They winter in tropical Africa down as far as South Africa. They don't like flying over large bodies of water so yours will have flown South via Gibraltar.

Thanks, geoff. I haven't seen ours since July at least ... nearing the height of our summer. Our winter, as such is January/February. When will they come back?

Lovely photos, Mona Lisa, nice to see you again, too! How did you get such good closeups?

I think M-L's storks will have made their way down the East coast of Spain to cross by Gibraltar. I think the East European population fly along the Eastern side of the Med.
I once read that it was because they don't like flying over large bodies of water that they rarely end up in Britain, though some travel further North in Europe. However i cannot recall ever seeing them in Northern France. I don't know whether they do get them there.
While I was looking for info on storks in Britain i stumbled across this guy's web site. He has some seriously good photographs of birds and some very rare birds. He also has pictures of other animals. Have a look at his pictures of a humpback whale off the coast of Scotland. They are stunning.

I have just looked up Bird Guides out of interest and there have been about 10 sitings of White Storks this year last ones photographed were in April. Strangely the last Stork to be seen and snapped here was the rarer Black Stork in Anglesey early August. I have not been fortunate enough to see one (yet). [IMG]
