I still have living nasturtium in my back garden. That's a record for me. It never usually makes it to the end of January. Either, the winter so far has been unusually mild, or by my process of selectively breeding my nasturtiums over 10 or more generations, each autumn saving the seeds off the most successful plants, I might have created a hardy perennial monster.

I sort of did - I said to Mrs C at the back end of the summer that I reckoned we were in for a soggy winter. Admittedly I didn't think it would be this soggy

Still cold -3c and wet up here, but I can not stop the roses blooming since last April
Every week another one decides it is Spring

No it is not pretty, as a gardener I have not a clue how to prune correctly so I have a rag bag of a hedge of roses and standards

Jack.....go to the 'Roses' forum, there's a sticky thread there that will tell you how to prune them. :)

The island has been on a red alert today. The reports are sill coming in as to what damage has been done but at the moment I don't think it's been as bad as expected. Rain showers have been driven on a gale force wind of up to 60mph, that has combined with the high tide. We also have some snow on high ground. I don't think there's much more the weather can throw at us!

Below: Douglas Bay and promenade from the top end. The second picture is the lower end of the promenade near the harbour.

                      Thanks ladies!

High tide here was around noon, so the worst is past but we still have a late tide to bear, hopefully the wind will have dropped a fair bit by then. :)

I'm not so silly Armandii, the wave watching above was done by someone else. :) Throughout my life I've lived close to the sea and I know all to well the damage it does and the lives it takes.

Although it's wrong and i certainly wouldn't chance my arm...you can see how people are fascinated with it....it's so dramatic....but so dangerous...

I know that:love30:.............just making sure!!!!:heehee: When you see the "less cautious" getting close enough to get spray from a huge storm wave you just know that they haven't a clue that there's probably a load of pebbles/stones and debris in it when it smashes against the beach or promenade.:hate-shocked::dunno:

I agree Loli. Although Douglas promenade was closed off to pedestrians and traffic the 'services' were still having to stop people from going on to it. It makes you wonder how some people think!

Armandii....You're so right about what is washed up. Most residents are told to move their cars off the prom as well because of the damage. I wonder how they'd get on trying to claim on insurance, a no-no probably!
