My original, almost 3 year old polytunnel had it's cover rip around the door opening, then peel back half way over the frame because the 'skirt' is buried in what's now a load of soggy wet slop and didn't hold it down.

A bit of Gaffa tape and a few nails + battens and it's sorted. I'm just pleased that the rubbish weather has put me off changing the cover for the replacement I've had ready for some time.

FC I have a Buddleia of similar size which capsized a couple of years ago as had forgotten to winter prune it. I cut it down to about 1 ft off the ground, replanted and staked it, never looked back and better than it was before so if you want to save it you should be able to.

Still no damage in my immediate area although my next door neighbours fence panel was blown out and I'll, hopefully, give her a hand to slot it back between the posts. However, I got little sleep last night because during the night it sounded like something was tapping hard on my bedroom window and kept waking me up. I checked the outside of the house closely this morning and there is nothing any where near the window to make such a noise:dunno::coffee:

We had a power cut over night, the wind was roaring like a jet plane circling the house for hours. Luckily no damage.

There's a few pics on our local newspaper's website about storm damage.

Compared to some parts of the country, we've got off lightly.

                  http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/buildings-trees-suffer-damage-after-6706991

The first pic in the gallery (of 5 pics) is a little bit sad for me, because there's a bit of a story behind that boarded up pub.

When I was just 15, that was the first pub that I had a pint in, having passed myself off as 18. Throughout my youth, that was always one of my regulars. Its also the first pub I took my missus to on our first proper date. Then a few years ago it was closed down unexpectedly, after some contractors came in to mend the roof, saw things that worried them, and advised the landlord to get a surveyor in. It is a listed building, so there is a reluctance to pull it down, but the surveyor and subsequent experts found so much wrong with it that the whole building was deemed unsafe. Its remained closed and boarded up for years, with the landlord hoping that someone who can afford to save it will do so. I'm told, by someone who understands these things better than I do, who is well connected in the local building trade, that the masonry was found to be crumbly and unstable or something like that. He describe it as an 'unstable pile of mush that needs rebuilding from the inside out'.

Funnily enough though, it can't be that unstable. Despite being unstable, its taken the full force of every storm coming in off the north sea for a number years, and its still there. Apart from now, where by the looks of it, its lost its chimney.

If that was in Woking clue, it would have been torn down and flats and takeaways built on the site in a heartbeat. They have no heart or style.
                    Hope the landlord was insured

Searching for news about the storm damage that's caused the Stone Pier at Weymouth to close, I came across this

Poor things, usually several dead birds after a storm, never seen a hundred before though :ouch1:

                          The Stone Pier has collapsed?

Took this pic while on it with @Jenny namaste in september. DSCF0007.JPG

There's supposed to be a million pounds worth of damage to it and it's been closed. I hope Swanage Pier is OK because it was supposed to be officially re-opened this month (although they maintained access to the end whilst carrying out the works).

that was such a lovely walk. I love piers a and walks with the sea on either side. More destruction... :(
