@Escarpment OH and I have been doing weekly ballroom dance class for 20 years or so and I'm looking forward to SCD starting again but would happily skip all the flummerry and padding and just cut to the dancing. OH happily sits thru it all. But then he can watch golf all day......

Yes - lots of hype over celebs and professional partnering and at least one good professional dance routine.

It’s just a bit of fun to be enjoyed for what it is……….GLAMOUR.
I always enjoy the Halloween night the costumes are brilliant ,it’s the hair and makeup artists who deserve most credit.
Not much chance but we have applied for tickets to see it live.

I can't stand SCD. All the padding and those judges. I will have a quick look just to see Toyah, but apart from her and Nick (?) I have no idea who the participants are.

Another programme I don't watch anymore is "Who do you think you are". I would call it "Who the hell are you" as I just don't recognise them.

Mind you I hardly watch BBC1 anyway.

I still enjoy "Who do you think you are". It doesn't matter if I know who the person is, if their ancestors turn out to be interesting!

I enjoyed last night's show. I realised that I knew more celebs than I thought I would. The stunning introductory dance was made all the better by the music happening to be one of my favourite tracks ever - Insomnia by Faithless. Loved it.

I recorded it and fast forwarded through the "waffle" . I must confess to being a bit trepidatious after recent events, but by the end I felt my faith somewhat restored.

I suspect that this batch of "Celebs" are fully aware of the challenge they face in restoring public faith and are up for it.

I wish Chris McCausland all the luck he can get, I have no idea how it's going to work out for him. His jokes were brilliant though (imo).

As for the group dance at the end, a couple of fine examples of "Dad Dancing".

I enjoyed the show, even with the waffle... I can put up with it in the intro show far more than in the 'journey' segments further into the series. What I really noticed was the much wittier and sharper jokes and banter - led by Chris McC but not limited to him. I laughed out loud several times, which I don't remember happening before. Looking forward to seeing how they all do.

@LG_ I felt that they were a really nice group of people this time. Chris McC cracks me up everytime he's on TV.

He is funny isn't he @Ladybird4 and @LG_

@AnniD I have never had any patience with the contestants who wimp about how hard it is to learn a new dance. Dance professionals in any discipline are remarkably fit and work hard to get and stay that way and to perfect their art and will expect such commitment from their partners, professional or amateur.

Some of the professionals have really got their work cut out this year. Having th enew chaperone system will protect the Beeb and the professionals too.

For me it’s escapism and something to look forward too. It’s a million miles away from anything I do, or would do, but somehow it’s a fascinating and entertaining distraction to every day life.

Chris has already shown that he will need humour to navigate the experience. I’m a bit nervous for him, but I think he will be a legend.

One downside is that it has reminded me that we are in Autumn, and the show takes us into December.

I had to miss last night's show. Is it a fortnight before they start in earnest?
I think GBBO (aka Bake Off) starts in a week or so. Then it really is Autumn!
