I'm joining the "don't know what I'm talking about" group. Full of admiration for them*, though - even the less accomplished ones.

I'm off on the first leg of my trip to Scotland today, and doubt if the Dublin hostel will have the Strictly results show on the TV. I'll be relying on my husband to relay the results to me from now until the end of the month...

*ie the dancers, not the group I've joined!

I agree @AnniD. Nick can go.

I was pleasantly surpised by Paul's quickstep. Plenty of energy and some lovely footwork.

Punam's jive was poor but I hope she makes it to next week as she's got promise. Loved Jojo and Montell's VW and Sam did very well in that samba. I suspect both are finding it hard to embrace femininity and pride and joy in their bodies.

However, that samba dress was just awful and not at all flattering to her or the dance. The costume department also managed to make Amy and Karen look fat. Some feat!

Some fabulous performances last night, especially that Charleston, and Chris is just amazing. Clever choreographies all round.

I still haven't started watching as I have avoided the first few weeks over the past several year in order to miss the 'no-hopers' and the 'in it for the laughs' celebs. My wife tells me that neither set appear this year. Long may that continue.

        Just watched it on iPlayer.

I think Punam was undermarked and she definitely isn't the worst dancer. She did well last week.

I think Tasha and Aljaz are the best.

I think Wynne was overmarked, he has a good feel for the music but I think his dancing doesn't match up.

        It was a good show.

No surprise regarding the couple that left, but possibly a surprise as to the couple they were up against.

I noticed Wynne was taking great care to keep his hands behind his back !

I hope Punam has had a wake up call and will perform better next week as no-one can rely on a previous performance to stay in. Jive needs much more energy and precision in all the kicks and flicks - not at our level obviously but definitely in a competition. She hardly had any and looked uncomfortable.

Not really surprised at the other bottom pair. I think concept and costume make a huge difference to the voting and that yellow and all the fringing were most definitely not appealing. Choreography not wonderful either.

The right person definitely left. He'd made a miraculous recovery from the supposedly very serious injury which was going to leave him needing crutches for weeks!

I think the right person left too and he may well have been relieved. He did limp a bit after the final dance.

I gave my 3 votes to Pete, Sam and Montell (Tasha didn’t need the votes as even if in bottom two they were streets ahead) this week.

The final dance off result was fair imo.

A mixed bag on last night's show but only to be expected I suppose, with so many couples still left in.

Loved Sam Quek's dress but was distracted by a text message so missed much of her dance. Going by the judges' comments and her reaction, I'm guessing there were several mistakes.

Punam and Gorka. She looked lovely, he was dressed for a round of golf.

Chris and Diane. Loved it. Technically not perfect, but left me with something in my eye.

To be honest I have no idea if Jamie Borthwick's Paso was any good or not, as I was so distracted by his costume. As a migraine sufferer, not a fan of zig zaggy black and white.

Looking forward to comments from forum members who understand more of the technical stuff, but Shayne and Nancy's American Smooth left me distinctly underwhelmed. Admired Montelle and Johannes' sheer energy.

I realised when reading this post back, that the majority of my comments seem to be more about the costumes than the dancing. I do tend to go for an instinctive reaction. If the dress is pretty, the music fits (!) then I am more inclined to become invested in the performance.

Finally, good on Craig for pointing out that there are no lifts in the rhumba and he would be marking down for that, whilst "Head Judge" Shirley said she would ignore the fact, basically because she was fangirling over Pete Wicks.
                RIP Len Goodman.

If male judges drooled over female celebrities the way Shirley drools over some of the men there would be complaints galore, and maybe questions in Parliament too!

Some really good dancing and performances last night.

Like you @AnniD I find the costumes make a huge difference to the overall effect. I know it was a carwash but all that fringing on Karen's dress was just awful. However, Paul managed to execute some very complicated steps so he did very well.

I agree about Jamie's costume too. He looks such a boy that he needs a more manly looking outfit so red and black or all black would have been better. However, great music, great choreography and well danced.

Really disliked Sam's dress and thought there was too much faffing and not enough dancing.

Impressive lifts from Shane and clever choreography by Nancy. He did well.

Chris and Diane were excellent again. I noticed that her left hand position is often up on his shoulder or collar rather than on th ebicep which is the usual position for the lady's left hand and wonder if that's a guiding technique for him. It works and he even improved his posture this week.

I was very cross with Shirley and her rumba remarks. Let her drool if she must but let her also be a responsible head judged and take off points for illegal moves. Good job Craig!

Sarah did much better this week. I don't think Katya needs to make Wyn a comedy act each week. He has the musicality to do a good quickstep in a proper costume and not be a clown.

JoJo and Montelle's costumes were messy but the dancing and energy were superb.

I found Punam disapponting. Doesn't look like she's feeling the joy or making the effort.

As I can’t really judge on technical rules and accuracy (you do pick things up after 10 years of viewing though) I go for general feel and fit. The music really can help or hinder and also the costumes to some degree. The public vote will clearly allow votes just for swoon, popularity of the dancers or the music etc but that’s why we need the judges to mark on technique.

Based on the above, I gave votes to Wynne and Pete but my favourite was Montell and Johannes.
