Stupid question but........

    Sky's original question does seem a bit odd, until you reflect that, often, seeds in packets of tomatoes arrive stuck together so that, what you might think is one seed actually produces two seedlings from the same spot!
    Actually, if you start doing it early enough, you can propagate further tomato plants by potting up the side shoots you remove from the parent plant although these, of course, will be some weeks behind in development so is usually only practicable if you're growing in a greenhouse where extra warmth can be given at the end of the season.

    and I'm sure that some "kind" people nip the side shoots out of the plants at garden centres to save their staff some work ... :D
