These are the baskets in tubs. so they're sitting baskets and not hanging baskets :)

Thanks. They were crammed full with anything, and everything, that was lying around or being brought on in the greenhouse. Once they're planted out they seem to do much better. That's probably because they get a lot of feed when they're planted. :blue thumb:

I enclose a recent photo of one of my hanging baskets, only because I want to show that there are indeed DWARF lupins! The flower spire is 6".

When I first joined here and said I got some plug lupins for my hanging baskets, there was some scepticism that lupins could be this size. There is a dwarf fuschia there too, coming out. (No doubt it looks far too wild for most but I am a naturalistic gardener).

              Hi Spruce,

They're stunning, I prefer the cascading Begonias to the big blousey ones.

                          Hello all,

I am a keen gardener but am quite new to this window box area within it, we have some very neglected window boxes that I am quite keen to get back to the living.

Does anyone have any tips? As I said I am a big novice when it comes to these and the more flowery side of gardening, should I replace the soil completely? Are there better soils to work within confined spaces or will this not make any difference? Which flowers will be best and easiest to get going with?

                          Any help welcomed!

                          Jeff

                            Good morning Geoff,
:sign0016: to Gardeners Corner. Always best to remove all the old soil and start afresh using Multi Purpose compost . There are still a few "dwarfish" bedding plants about that will provide you with some instant colour but, if you wait a while, the Autumn pansies will soon be available along with cyclamen that will look nice for a few months.
hope you enjoy your time on the Forum,
                            Jenny namaste
