    Hi Fern

Thats a good question, speaking from experience some are only propagated from cuttings or seeds and dont produce corms that are viable to store and regrow eg "crackling fire series" they just

    upload_2015-2-25_20-30-10.jpeg
flower sooo much they dont produce any.

I also grow named exhibition varieties that you can only buy from corms and not as plugs or seeds eg Ziggy
    [IMG][IMG]

so I would say both are just as good as each other depending what you are growing them for.
My thoughts, be interesting to see what others may think ?

I didn't know that some don't produce corms - you learn something new every day on here. I must say, I do like that photo of the crackling fire series. They look really dramatic. :blue thumb:

        That 'Ziggy' is a stunner!
On the few occasions I've tried to grow from corms, I've always half buried them. Probably why I didn't do too well

I'm doing away with hanging baskets this year, trying flower pouches! From bottom of the gutter board to ground, as I live in a bungalow sounds as if it may work with troughs under the windows.
Flower pouches will have trailing begonia mixed, troughs will have dahlias (dwarf). Bedding area lobelia deep blue, with lilys in bedding area as well if all goes well it should look quite colourful

One note of caution @jono - the compost tends to solidify and dry out very quickly in flower pouches, so make sure you add a healthy dose of swell gel, vermiculite or even both to your mix

Jono when I planted flower pouches , I placed a length of 32mm plastic waste pipe ( from any plumbing merchants ) to reach about two thirds into the bag. I could then water the top and the bottom of the bag at the same time.

What a corker of an idea - I am sorely tempted to give that a considerable trial this year. I assume that it works with the gubbins from all disposable nappies?

I assume so, pampers or huggies are supposed to be the most absorbent nappies on the market.
                    Worth a try

Last night I went to Aldi, I'd heard from a friend that the bedding plants were in & didn't want to miss out! Anyway I bought 3 packs (£1.99 per pack!) & this evening I pricked them out. I've got double petunias, trailing lobelia & gazania's tiger stripe! There were plenty to choose from, I'm going to get some more! Here's a photo: image.jpg
They had so many plants, 6 perennial plants for £3.99 & loads of summer bulbs for 99p & roses for £1.89! Well worth a look if you live near an Aldi :blue thumb: xx
