    Wow Jinty!

You don't need canes. You need scaffold!
Now the heads have developed they'll not grow more than a few inches. I'd be tempted to tie them to the tops of the canes and hope you don't get any gales. The other alternative would be to put a wire along the wall and tie off the plants to that.
I doubt if the flowers will get much bigger as the plants have put all their energy into green growth rather than flower production.
We've grown eight this year and the smaller ones have in general the largest heads.

Thanks Dave, I think I will just leave them be. They seem quite strong.
Wildflower - I have read some of your posts about herbs and wildflowers- I've got some comfrey planted to use maybe next year.
Have never grown sunflowers before, but it has been quite fun.

What's the best way to dry the heads? Should we leave them until the plants die or cut them off and hang them up.? We want to save ours for the birds in winter.

Dave I left mine on their stalks till they were pretty crispy from the sun, then cut them off and stored them in the garage to finish drying.

Hi Juicer and welcome to GC! Lovely field of sunflowers; sometimes see such here. If it's your field and photo you should enter it in the August Photo comp.

Dave, in China they use canes as scaffolding, even building skyscrapers! Not sure I'd trust it but t'other half said it's that real thick stuff that withstands all kinds of weight.
