Thanks ladies! The two seedlings are coming along nicely.

First Salvia to start blooming in 2014 is this small cutting of S.microphylla that I struck last autumn. It has been kept in the greenhouse.

 

Salvia confertiflora has been in this sheltered spot at the top of the garden all winter..................


It's covered in flower buds.....................

 

These two have coped well with being outdoors all Winter and I'm looking forward to seeing them flower for the first time this year,

@Jenny namaste - I'm looking forward to my S.dolicantha blooming too. I have a few S.hians seedlings (I was going to offer you one) so I guess that they'll be next year?

 

My plant is in its second year so I'm hoping its grown enough to come up with the goods in 2014,

Salvia buchanii is just a small cutting yet it is blooming already................


The first of the garden planted Salvias to bloom is the ever reliable S.microphylla................

Salvia confertiflora
Salvia darcyi
Salvia discolor AGM
Salvia guajuanato
Salvia 'Indigo Spires'
Salvia x jamensis 'Hot Lips'
Salvia splendens 'Jimi's Good Red'

I guess he must have found a way to propagate S. discolor ?

 

I suspect that it takes a special kind of numpty (me) to fail!! @nibor told me how to do it and they still bombed.

Black Knight is a good one. However, it was a little late in the season to bloom, and is only just getting going (from below ground) now.
S.confertiflora is still blooming on last years growth (this will get chopped back to the new shoots in the next few days) and remained in the green in a sheltered spot over the winter.
Hot Lips is indestructible.

@Jenny namaste - your S.hians is fair romping away! Here's a photo of one of my S.forskaehlei leaves - they're huge!


Salvia elegans is pretty much done blooming now and is about to be cut back hard....................

 

Wow - a monster - that big already.... Just had a look in Robin's Gallery - pretty speckled throat but "attractive to slugs and snails...

Once the foliage is that big the slugs and snails are not a problem!
