I don't suppose that you salvaged any seed?
Not sure that it was Hians - look here...................

Did it have large basal leaves (up to 30cm)? Maybe it was Salvia przewalskii..............

That is not Salvia hians, more likely S. forskhaoleii (or however you spell it!)

        Salvia stolonifera from Robins seed.......................

Not a tall plant at the moment (about30cm) or the most floriferous but it is starting to spread a bit now.....................

This one is in the most shade and is doing the best.

The difference is noticeable. The one in more sun is doing far less well.

This is turning into a bit of an obsession - picked up a couple more from the interesting plant man @ the local farmers market:
            --
Salvia greggii "Royal Bumble" - a nice contrast between the red flowers & the darker bracts

            Also, Salvia "African Sky"
            --

Now I just need to find somewhere to put them..

Heh - Looks like Ive got a fair way to go yet then ! Maybe we should do a mini-seed swap at the end of the year if I remember to save some ?

Its the chap from Wanborough - I dont think he gets out your way but hes normally got some interesting stuff, not a huge stall though.

                Dammit ! I thought the £2.50 I paid was good !

No need for a swap, but I'm always interested in new Salvia.

                No, he doesn't:sad:

It's a charity sale spot outside her house. Large Brug cuttings for £2.50!
                S.leucantha has huge potential.................

Very nice, although to be honest it looks more like "Wendys Wish". The shape of the flower looks wrong for S.guaranitica to me.

Looks like you are right longk - the plant label said:

                      Sage 'Amistad'
                      Salvia guaranitica

But looks like the Homebase people may have got it wrong - a search for Salvia Amistad reveals:

RHS describe it as a new cultivar and another site says:

Thank you Rolando Uria of the University of Buenos Aries for this very fine plant. Discovered in 2005 at a plant show in Argentina, this truly unique hybrid sage has generated a great deal of excitement in the Salvia world. We are happy to be able to offer this plant which we test grew in 2012 for sale in the Spring of 2013.

Growing to about four feet tall, this variety starts blooming when very small and never stops. Large rich royal purple flowers are highlighted dark bracts - all displayed on many-flowered inflorescence. The foliage is something like S. guarantica and something like S. mexicana, but it's true origins are unknown.

According to Rolando (pictured here at the Salvia Summit II in March 2013) this plant is replacing Salvia guarantica in the gardens of Buenos Aires. It resembles some of the purple Anise Scented Sages, but is an absolutely unique plant.

A true hummingbird magnet, use this fine plant as a specimen, in mass for bedding, in a container or in the perennial border. The true temperature hardiness of Amistad is still
imperfectly understood, but the plant has handled 20 degree weather for us.

The associated photos seem to match what I've got - the flower colour is a deep purple - it only looks pink in my photo because the sun is shining through it.

@colinn - I would love to see a more conventional photo of it. @nibor who drops in here from time to time should know all about Amistad as I believe that he was the first person in the UK to grow it? I only ask as the shape still looks wrong for Amistad. Looks more like Dark Knight from that angle (allowing for the colour difference that you described).
