If it is in a tub (and thus a "central feature"??) I would take them out, pot them up for next year, and put something else in the tub - perhaps nip to the garden centre and find something in flower / looking good / etc.

I have several tubs "round the back" and when one gets tired I replace it with one that is just-coming-along whilst the retired one has a chance to recover, regroup and reflower

It has a slightly better colour to the flower but a far better stem and calyx colour. The first of these seed grown plants to flower can be seen in this post here.

 

So could be "Saliva hans" then?

 

As they can be somewhat promiscuous in Nibors words it could be anything!!

 

the two below are "Sensation Deep ..." something or other - I cut them right back to the base where some fresh new leaves were growing about 3-4 weeks ago - the foliage came back strong and quickly and they are flowering again though not as well as their first flush, as longk says.

Not sure if that will work now, a month later in the season - but won't kill them. If the foliage looks ok and not too tired then I would probably just cut back the flower stems - if there's a lot of dead leaves in the centre of the plant but new leaves at the base then even now I might try cutting right back.

Last year I left those plants and cut back to new growth in Spring so no matter what you do you won't kill them.

 

Thanks for that I cut the one right back to fresh looking leaves this aft and left the other for a experiment lol so we will see what occurs ...thanks eveyone for your help

 

I tend not to tidy hollow stemmed plants at the end of the season as it significantly increases their winter survival rates if left intact.

Amongst the seed that I got from Robins Salvias (@nibor ) this year was S.urica. What a gem!
First thing this morning..............

And the finished item this evening.................


Something of a gem! Stands 120cm tall now and branching up nicely.

 

Recently potted up - S. Uliginosa (until longk tells me different)

 

Nice one! Keep an eye out for seed - I could do a swap with something.

 

will do - how, exactly, do I go about harvesting the seeds from these?

 

Have a look for these, but only remove when the calyx has gone brown,
