It's probably my favourite Salvia. It's the one that Christopher Lloyd (Great Dixter) said he "most drooled after".

      Some statement Peter! It is rather hard to pick just one out so for me it is;
      • Hardy Salvia - S.dolichantha
      • Tender - S.discolor
      • Winter blooming - S.gesneriiflora
      • Borderline hardy - I love this one but I also have the form "Purple Velvet" coming along from seed. Trouble is that there are so many borderline hardy species that it really is hard to choose.

Salvia SL411 has so much potential to be a good'un but it isn't quite delivering................

I'll try to keep it going over the winter (although @nibor suggests that it is tricky to overwinter) and start some fresh seeds off next year as well in the hope that the summer is better.

Thanks Robin. Just requested a copy of your seed list. I'll have more room to grow stuff next year as I'm moving soon. Can't wait :dancy:

Maybe I am stupid, but all I received from you was something about "blue thumb" Please email me, with your name, but not from this forum.

                Thanks, Robin.

All sorted now, sorry for any misunderstandings! Salvias forever, despite the devastating frost last weekend! Keep an eye on greenhouse cuttings/plants, this is a dangerous time for mould/botrytis, and do NOT over-water your plants. Always keep on the dry side, remove any fallen flowers and foliage. Time-consuming, but relaxing and therapeutic.....if you are retired and have time........as I have!!!

Particularly sad with the frost this year, even though 3 weeks later than last year, I had 2 forms of S. mexicana, S. madrensis, S. rubescens ssp. dolichotrix, and other late-bloomers in full flower, Sunday morning they were totally burnt........hey-ho!

Mulch semi-hardy Salvias outside, but don't prune too much before spring, especially the woody ones...greggii/microphyllas, etc.

www.robinssalvias.com see the note about seeds for sale.

                Regards to all.......Robin. (Nibor)

The frost knocked SL411 back hard but it may survive. It was looking like a promising plant................

Salvia leucantha still looks good though.................

                  S.lasiantha looks promising.................
