SUPER SALVIA'S - 2015

I don't have many Salvias (not enough room) but these are the few I have. Salvia Argentea is in bud and not opened yet.

Hotlips, the white is coming through now.

Salvia greggii really does produce some terrific cultivars

Not wishing to argue but I'm not sure that it is a Salvia guaranitica - the lower lip shape looks wrong. A couple to compare with...............




The leaf shape looks wrong too

 

It was the best I could come up with Keith, as I wasn't sure. If you know what variety it is let me know. As I said it came from a fully hardy 6ft shrub and I presume there aren't many blue ones that tall.

 

It's got me beat. How large would you say the flowers are?

Salvia "Raspberry Royale" is probably my favourite Salvia x jamensis cultivar. Very late this year...............

 

Looks like a form of greggii or a hybrid. There are some new forms around that are blue. Do the flowers have a hint of violet?

Flowering here is a bit late, but here's Neon,Sunset,Cherry Pie, Hotlips, something without a label,and Oxford Blue. Wish my Guarantica had survived, I once had a 6 footer as well. Cuttings failed over winter. Still have Lavenda Dilly, Gregii Lara, African skies to flower, think I've lost Amistad though sadly. Also a few seedlings in the greenhouse (turkestana, forska,) for next year.

 

Did you grow "something without a label" from the seed swap last year? It's Penstemon smallii.

S.turkestanica and S.forrskoallii are properly hardy - plant them out (ok, maybe keep a couple under glass as back-ups).

 

I might have done! Wondered why it didn't look like the others!!!

 

It's a short lived plant but allow the seed pods to form and it will self seed. Easily lifted and moved or potted up round about this time of year.

 

Here is a pic of what I thought was S gaurantica, I may have confused it with something else, as you can see against the 5p piece, the flower is vey small.

 

To my (untrained) eye I would say that @nibor is on the money.

 

Thanks for the close-up....definitely not guaranitica (note correct spelling!) Almost certainly a new and beautiful cultivar of greggii......Blue Note, Blue Moon, or another.
