    Longk,
    This ones for you.....

I think I might have made a bit if a booboo... Someone gave me an Irishman's Cutting off a Salvia Nemerosa ( I think it's called Caradonna) while I was at my mums on Friday. I put it in a glass of water and then forgot about it, it's only looking through this thread now that I have remembered it. It was quite long, about 4".
Will it be alright or should I cut the top off and try a normal cutting ?
    I'll be there tomorrow.

PS...... The S. Dolichantha seeds are doing good. I sowed 8 and 7 have germinated. They're just getting their first true leaves.

    So yeah, well late :heehee:

I always do them the conventional way. Nice airy mix.

    Enjoy! My favourite hardy Salvia.

That's the one that came back from last year properly.

The other one has had several false starts and is only now showing some viable growth - here it is nestled among the bones of last year:

I cut off a lot of last year's old wood when I saw some new growth towards the bottom of the stems, but then they bled profusely for weeks and the new growth died. Not sure how to handle these woody salvias ..... the other one did fine though with the same treatment.

:goodpost: I didn't like Salvia, but having visited 'Robins Salvias' I must admit I have a different opinion now :spinning:

Not sure which one this is. I treat them as I would a hardy Fuchsia and cut them back in the spring once they're back in growth. I probably would have used a smaller grade of gravel as any shoots coming up from the roots are quite delicate.
Oh you fool you! Did nobody warn you that that site can be dangerous and addiction forming :heehee:

It's another Amistad - so one is in flower and one is 2 inches tall!

First time in bloom for a seed grown Salvia radula..............

Not the largest blooms but it doesn't stop it being a very good Salvia.

                  A couple more;

Salvia glutinosa is sticky to the touch to protect it from small flies and aphids................

                  It makes a large plant..............

The chap who does the monthly Farmers Market in Faringdon as discussed in last years thread has clearly got my number & brings me one each month now - hes also doing interesting herbs & other odds 'n' ends.

Im going to take some cuttings at some point having had no luck with seed last year, happy to share if I get anything viable !
