Judging by the shape of the flowers I'm leaning towards Black Knight as the lower lip is less pronounced and more like that of S.splendens. Of course, I could be wrong. @nibor would have a better idea.

First bloom on the latest batch of seed grown S.dolichantha..........

Probably the best colour so far on all the S.dolichantha that I've grown so far. I keep growing these from seed as I like the variability and not because they're not hardy. Without a doubt S.dolichantha is my favourite hardy Salvia.

I gave my Hot Lips a trim a couple of months ago and it has come back stronger than ever:

Most of the microphylla type are invasive. The more tender ones too down here...the roots will spread. Blue Note, for example, is one I control by replacing every two years. Only the tuberous varieties are well behaved.....but, beautiful and worth it.:)

I have guanajuato, patens...light and dark, uliginosa, amistad, cacalifolia, waverley, embers wish, love and wishes, blue note, violin music, guaranitica, a few of the standard hardies including snow mound, bethelli, bulleyana blue lips.....a couple more incl the popular hot lips (not a favourite of mine but I still have one or two in pots)
To be fair a neighbour has made a central lawn feature of 20 or so hot lips that looks pretty good but still not enough to make me plant one in my garden......
Guanajuato is a fabulous plant....now in flower so I will post a picture :yay:
