Re Salvia divinorum, I grew this for two years, massively untidy plant (suppose I could have made a small fortune had I sold the leaves!), and it had flower buds in the greenhouse, which all aborted. It needs constant shade, humidity, and warmth, which I cannot provide......that would kill most of my other tender Salvias. I did see this in November a few years ago in ideal conditions in Germany, the plant was like a triffid, but the flowers were incredibly beautiful, imagine a hairy white S. fulgens with purple calyces.

Thanks for the info nibor much appreciated, trying to think whether I could provide those conditions, mmm the wood would be shady but not humid or warm enough, do have a greenhouse in part shade (one end covered by a large clematis) which I find useful when growing on shade loving seedlings, would that work if I kept the floor damp in hot weather ???? worth a try I suppose you've got me drooling with your description of the flowers :dbgrtmb:

I wonder if there is a little solar-panel powered "Mister" that would work in greenhouses that have no power supply? I could do with one of those for cuttings

I still have salvia Mulberry Jam, leucanthemum and hot lips in flower. Hot lips and leucanthemum I know to be pretty hardy here but mulberry jam is new to me. It looks as though it's related to microphylla so I will expect it to survive the winter. Next year I should have Amistad and Elegans Tangerine in my collection of salvias

....don't know where I'm going to put them all though, but I'm sure I can handle that (pleasant) problem!

          I know that problem!
Had some seeds arrive t'other day and put them in the "to sow soon" container. It was then that I realised that I already have nearly thirty different plants to start in January alone, plus a few more to come that I ordered whilst I was off sick.
Then there is the container which has the February onwards seeds..................

Perhaps Santa will bring you a "Delayed until 2014" container? ...

.... or the winning lottery ticket?

All ordered, but will have to wait until the spring before it arrives.

I ordered six salvia from the Other Fellow Website last night (along with three fuchsias  ).

Anyone here have experience of growing salvias in containers? My idea was to put them in pots to hide my neighbour's fence. :)

Salvias mostly do grow well in containers but what varieties do you have? Some are tall some short. Salvia guaranitica is good for height but needs biggish pot. Uliginosa too but needs moist conditions. There are so many varieties of salvia......I have at least 15 ...and they are all different. Some more hardy than others, some almost evergreen, some herbaceous, some with scented foliage. It's important you know what varieties you have Chiaroscuro?
