Really nice to see you nibor :heehee:

I am still very much on a learing curve - do we ever get off it. What has been impressed on me this year is the importance of heat. It doesn't seem to set back a lot of our hardy perennials - because they are just that - hardy. But so much of the more interesting stuff like Salvias are tender and are just on that knife edge.

I have had real problems getting some tubers into growth this year - such as Amorphophallus. But when I put them in a heated propagator they are up and away in no time. Oh! for a larger greenhouse.

That's lovely Jenny - I have not seen that before. The microphylla/gregii is one species where there seem to be a lot of cultivars. Most Salvia species seem to have very few and often no cultivars.

            CORRECTION to above.
That last frame is Salvia Amistad NOT Leucantha which is yet to develop flower spikes and is to the right of Amistad in the corner(out of frame).
Leucantha has a lilac coloured stem and a lilac flower spike with some white in it.
Hope to show that one later,
            Jenny

            Advice please on Salvia Amistad.
            Will it produce viable seed?
Or should I take cuttings in October?
Happy to swap either for a really Pink one,
            Jenny

It may produce seed Jenny - but I wouldn't bank on it.

I understand that it is a hybrid of S. guaranatica and something else (possibly S. gesneriflora). and cross species hybrids can often be sterile. So I would be inclined to take some cuttings anyway.

Bone hardy this one, been in the garden for 4 years now and comes back no problem, grew it from mixed Plantworld seed, the flowers are quite large for a salvia.

Salvia "Lemon Pie" and "Peach Cobbler" and finally "Amistad". The first two are quite petite and are being dwarfed by Campanulas and tomatoes. I think I will dig them out and put them into their own pot at the end of the season.Too nice - they need a stage of their own to perform on Salvias and Coryopteris 11 August 2012 001.JPG Salvias and Coryopteris 11 August 2012 003.JPG Salvias and Coryopteris 11 August 2012 004.JPG
