That used to be a problem with late season cuttings, nearly all stems terminating in a flower and not wanting to grow any further, but it's been very many years since I did this stuff.

I'm just thinking off the top of my head:scratch::biggrin:
But to provide cuttings to overwinter would it not be worth while growing a sacrificial plant in a large pot, cut it back hard around August, feed with nitrogen fertiliser, and try to get good vegetative growth at that time for cuttings in september.

I think for 90% of gardeners it's easier to buy new Surfinia plugs every year. Let the pros do the hard work for you :blue thumb:

I'm with 10% who don't conform. I also refuse to pay anybody to do stuff I can do myself unless there's significant saving.

Serious gardening isn't always (ever?) easy/not hard work. Just got from Tesco with our usual haul of 90% off reduced fruit and veg, but will still be going out to my polytunnels in a while to earth up spuds, cover veg with fleece, etc., wading through flooded paths and thick mud (including in my tunnels, which I still need to carry water to), plus burning loads of gas in my greenhouse keeping plants cosy over the next few days.

But should I see some seriously reduced Surfinas at Homebase, I'm going to feel compelled to buy at least one to check whether indoor over winter propagation under LEDs can be achieved.
