Surrey Police & escaped calf - DISTRESSING!!

There are ethical farmers and then there are other farmers. I remember years ago my farming uncle taking a stick off another farmer at a cattle market and telling him off for being cruel.

 

I have a couple of responses from the police (I will post them later on) but essentially they say "eff off pleb, you weren't there, so you can't complain" - depicts quite nicely where our public services currently sit, unanswerable to anyone.

 

Sorry @Tinkerton my response wasn't aimed at you, merely letting off steam.

I have no doubt some farmers will say the police did the right thing but from my experience many gentlemen farmers hardly move from a desk and are only interested in their bank balance.

What a load of b******t, the second one is confusing, it says you can't complain but also says they are investigating. You must be well hacked off by these replies.

 

You couldn't make it up! So a dangerous animal that had to be rammed by a police car to prevent it causing injury to the public is simply handed to two strangers who happened by. No checking of qualifications for animal welfare? No checking the suitability of facilities for an injured animal? They could easily have just released it again around the corner, what a farce.

 

Very. As I say, a very polite way to say "eff off, we don't answer to you" - never have I ever been so disillusioned by public services in this country. All of them.

I'd say they are all as bad as each other if I am honest - they are there to sell papers/advertising/subscriptions, so they all pick and choose what slant they put on a story.

In fairness, having read the article, they say it was a case that the two men had a trailer and offered to transport the cow to their smallholding near Heathrow and keep it safe - they later requested payment for the transportation. Perhaps a bit cheeky, but in fairness if your car was broken down and you didn't have AA or RAC cover, you aren't going to get it recovered for free.
