I love SPs and the scent from the cut flowers in the house is amazing.
There comes a time in the summer that I keep forgetting to pick them and then it's all over because the remaining flowers have all podded.
I haven't grown any this year and I've missed them:(

Smiffy, I only grow in pots so can't tell you for sure but as far as I remember you can. Sorry I haven't any further information, but you will get some on here.

fmay, do you know I can't smell them! Maybe I don't have enough but I know I'm going to remember to pick them next year and maybe smell them in the house - now I'm going to have to get some little vases to show them off, lol. My o/h is going mad!!!, lol

    cheers

Funnily enough, I cannot smell Freesias and neither could my mother:confused:

Growing sweet peas in the same plot. Not recommended, same as legumes (such as alfalfa, clover, peas, beans, lentils, lupins, and peanuts etc).

They are terrific in producing nitrogen into the soil..which other kind of plants or veg enjoy...so it really is recommended not to grow them in the same trench or soil without leaving 3 years in between...but you could probably get away with once every three years.

You could go to the extent of conditioning the soil with manure and stuff etc every year, but ...it really is best to move them round yearly to avoid disease as well.:thumb:

I only grow Sweet Peas as a cut flower, and pick the ones from the catalogue that have the highest fragrance rating.

I've just had to lay all mine down, which took ages. I suppose I should have used longer stakes - next year I'll try 8' instead of 5'

I let my sp go wild this year and they are full of pods (on purpose, I really wanted much more seeds next year) but still blooming well

I did not put much of a stake for them. I planted them together with tall sunflowers and they are climbing all around and among these.

They are all of the palest mauve, but VERY scented. I really like them a lot.

Apparently many modern varieties with strong colours have lost a deal of the original scent, or so some catalogues say.
