Jazz - I am sorry, I think I may have responded out of my own alarm. Sometimes I forget that what I find pernicious someone else may be okay with.

As far as Garden Centre selling plants - almost anything can be considered a pest - I grow Eomecon, the Himalayan Poppy which a lot of people find absolutely invasive - it sets runner in dry under canopy planting. But because I have planted it in unimproved shallow clay, between very large tree roots, it stays very manageable here. The runners stay shallow and slow so I can pull it back if it runs too far. In another spot it could become rampant. So, I should have first asked you how are you growing it and how are you managing to contain it. I apologize for not doing that.

Going back to the question about garden centre selling plants - for me, I find I need to do my own research. To get to know plants, as well as the nurseries I buy from so I can decide how they are going to respond to where I plant them out. Knowing the nursery lets me pick their brains a bit about the plant's habits, and whether they are suitable. I guess that is what this forum is about too, and again, I should have first asked your experience of the plant rather than just responded from my own baseline (Russian Vine, Falopia Baldschuanica is related to Japanese Knotweed, Falopia Japonica - and I find that worrying). If I had asked the right questions, I might have learned about growing it in a contained way, much the same as my experience with the Eomecon.

Again, my apologies. I will certainly rein in my comments next time, and try to ask questions first. Rumple
