If you get them to germiante OK then they will be fine. They are a Sugar Enhance variety (which I think means that they are bred for UK climate, so will not grow as tall as the old fashioned types, and will thus crop before we run out of Summer!

If you manage to get any of the other varieties to germinate make sure you prevent them from cross pollinating otherwise it may wreck the cobs (this problem is unique to Sweetcorn - in terms of wrecking the harvested produce, rather than plants raised from self-saved seed)

How do i stop them cross pollinating? My gardening book (that i got for my birthday) says to put them in the 4 corners of your garden but mine is only small what do i do?

Honestly bexy I think you will be heading for disappointment if you sow any more seeds, you might stand a chance if the weather was brilliant but it isn't. Isn't there anything else you would like to grow? for seed sowing we are unfortunately running out of time now!!

For sweetcorn you can sow them at different times, so that they mature at different times.

But as Val says: its getting late to be sowing sweetcorn now.

Its the best reference book on vegetable growing - it doesn't tell you much about "how to" but it has everything about spacing, when to sow/plant, how much seed you need, and so on.

The sweetcorn plants i planted last year turned out a treat they grew and started to grow cobs on them until we got hit by a storm and they fell flat on their faces... i am thinking that i might sow them earlier this year see what happens :D

I tried last year and failed dismally as well. There is a field down the road that's always full to capacity of the stuff and it makes me jealous, lol

Nah - it's sweetcorn that's nasty :heehee: I can't put my finger on it but to me it's as nasty as cooked carrots.

Welcome back :sign0016: - we thought you had forgotten us :snork:

I have bought some sweetcorn to try this year (will be sowing them shortly - still deciding if I need to pre-soak them or not), and got mine through Amazon from Premier Seeds.
