swiss chard

    I must try kale next. I'm sure I'll love it. Looked at my purple sprouting today - I think another week and there should be enough for a first picking. Can't wait!!!! [​IMG]

    Kale is THE winter veggie up around our area. Like brussels, it needs to get frost on it to make it taste good.

    It is cooked with various kinds of smoked meats and sausages, some onions, salt and pepper, sugar (to take any bitter taste away) and mustard. It is thickened with either oatmeal or barley. Served with boiled potatoes. Some say fried but that is just too much fat.

    We have never planted it, most everyone nowadays buys it either in tins or deep-frozen. It is a good meal to make more of and then freeze portions for future use. Here they also say it tastes best on the second day.

    HI guys, can you start Chard indoors and then transplant it? Or will that make it susceptible to "bolting". I think the leaves taste like spinach and the stems like asparagus. Then again, I haven't got a brilliant sense of taste/smell
