Well. When I was a lass and lived in another country :) I could join a schoolkids' chemistry club at Moscow State Uni which gave me unchecked access to the labs there with all the torpedo-sized high pressure vessels of H2O2, liquid nitrogen, oxygen, and also the bottles of concentrated suphuric acid, caustic soda and other highly potent stuff. I remember a bunch of kids from my class pinch magnesium powder from the shelf (silly idiots, it's very expensive!) - if you set fire to that, it reacts with oxygen making a spectacular but very short-lived bright flame (that's what first pghotographers used for a flash). In fact if you were careful enough to dodge the lab staff you could nick virtually anything from there, I'm quite surprised how nothing really dangerous ever went missing.

The lab next door ran a "young pyrotechnician's club" (making fireworks, basically). Proper fun! :happydance:

I also knew a couple of kids who had chem labs at home :heehee: and of course it was entirely possible - and legal - to buy al the gear and the chemicals. It very probably still is.

Oh, and did I mention we didn't pay a penny for those clubs?

I bet if that sort of thing is still going, there's a charge for it now.
