    Perhaps a question for Webmaster

Do you want users to tag the likes of the Administrators User Group (I assume it exists on this forum and has the usual ID) when making comments such as "You appear to have posted in the wrong place, could an Administrator move this post to the XXXX board please" to bring it to their attention?

That's to do with getting notifications about replies to posts on Users Profiles (I think).

Some of the tags are simply not working.

Tried to tag Jenny namaste but got this instead:
FC tried to tag me, but got this instead:

Must be difficult with so many similar usernames, but, it does highlight its weaknesses. Fixable?

In theory if I type @ Jenny namaste (but remove the space after the @ symbol) it should send you an alert to let you know that I have 'tagged' you in a post (assumes that you have the alerts switched on), however when I do so for your name it changes to some other username when I hit reply - Its doing the same with Vince's name, and Mum's name too, so there is a wee gremlin at play.

Its quite handy when it works though, makes tracking stuff that is of interest to you a bit easier.

                Jenny and Joolz

I think the advantage of tagging a member is this:

~ when another member makes a particular comment within a thread at a specific user, they can "tag" that specific username to draw the specified users attention to it. When they turn the specific users name into a tag (by using the @ symbol immediately before the specified users name - no space inbetween), the name of that specific user is highlighted (just like a link - it will appear in blue highlight) and, in addition, that specified user gets an "Alert" (just like when a reply is made to a thread you have commented on).

It can be useful for that reason - bit like a shortcut to a particular comment within a thread, as opposed to starting a "conversation" (otherwise known as sending a "PM" aka "private message")

At present, it is a PITA (pain in the rear) because it is not instantly recognising who is being tagged - despite the user name being typed correctly! It is trying to be too clever by second guessing who we are trying to tag and that is leading to minor irritations; hopefully, not insurmountable :)

Now, if you translate that into threads where people may refer to users they haven't seen for a little while (let's take the example of, say, Folly Mon). By tagging him within threads, he will be alerted that comments have been made specifically to him - or about him; when he clicks on the alert for that thread, it should take him to that post where he is tagged.

Have I explained that clearly? Always difficult if you think you've understood something and then try to explain it in different words
