It was very sad looking at Carrie's website - a labour of love completely lost.

Just found this thread . The Grannies Bonnets we had were very pretty , never noted them self seeding , but 2 seasons ago they self died . The virus , did not know of this , may be the reason .
I tagged Aquilegia Red Hobbit onto my plug plant order this year , possibly not a wise move with the virus ?
How come everything I like has it's own unique virus , Canna , Impatiens , Aquilegia :gaah:

If you get the disease it usually manifests itself with the leaves turning a whitish colour.

        Good luck. :blue thumb:

My local nurseryman...lady....told me last year about this disease on aguilegias and stopped growing and supplying them.

Fuchsias are next on the list....2017 was a marker but this year will be devastating for them I think:sad:.

I try to keep my ear to the ground as well as an eye on the health of my own plants. New plants are always checked thoroughly ......incl the roots and pots.....before I put them out. Weak clones always discarded

Harry, similar with cannas and impatiens but both have now been cleaned up and available for us to grow. The warning is, with cannas and hostas, only buy virus free stock from suppliers willing to guarantee that. Of course, make sure any hostas and cannas already in our gardens are healthy or the virus will spread to new stock.

I think the tendency to overfeed our plants hasn't helped.....lush plants often attract pests, diseases and viruses so hard grown for me here.:)

We lost all our Aquilegias some years ago and had to remove a number of 7ft x 5ft Fuchsias last year

The only feed we give them is our home grown compost mixed with horse manure. :noidea:

I have ordered a tray of Impatien DeZire, hopefully they have mildew resistance . Not grown them for 5 years. So there is a Fuchsia virus on the prowl as well , that could be devastating for some gardeners. Why can't we have a virus for Mares Tail :snorky:

Last summer I started off some aquilegias from seed along with some wallflowers and something else I can't spell.(galardia?). I put them all in my greenhouse which promptly blew over. All my seeds ended up in a pile on the floor. I recovered what I could. I now have half a dozen pots of mixed shoots. I have no idea what any of them are. It will be interesting to see what comes out.

                      G.
