Well as promised I had the grand opening of the Potatoes in a old 30 ltr compost bag which I had 1 seed potato growing in it. The top growth was heading for about 5ft tall and looked gloriously healthy topped with white flowers. I thought I'd better investigate before inviting friends round for a nice meal to enjoy my 1st home grown spuds.
Below is what I harvested....sh1te:wallbanging:. I reckon the whole lot just might equal the weight of the seed Potato they grew from, pathetic. I am not impressed, all that faffing about watering and earthing up plus fighting my way into the greenhouse where they were growing. I have another 3 similar bags waiting to be harvested. Is there any point waiting longer? The remaining bu..ers are now out of the greenhouse as they were taking it over. Just about killed myself dragging the bags out.
I am expecting lots of hysterical laughter from you lot when you view the harvest.........:) and yes that is a 5p piece to show the amazing size of the spuds!

I'm not laughing the Snails/Slugs ate all my tops in one bag and when opened....nothing, well just a manky seed Pot............Ok I did smile a little if I'm honest.

Oh yes @john558 I too found the remnants of my seed potato while hunting for the elusive magnificent crop similarly manky:). To be honest I'm also not that bothered altho if all the Potatoes I've planted in the garden are equally as bad I will be a bit cheesed off purely for the waste of time and energy. Post finding my 1st bag of spuds were beyond terrible I was cheered up by some Garlic I had planted and grown over winter in the greenhouse which looked ready to lift. They are stonking so not all a disaster:)

Apart from 1 spud I didn't think it was physically possible to get Potatoes smaller than mine, you must have very good eyesight @Linz to have even seen them:)

I tried growing last year for a competition - they went rotten (and stank to high heaven! :eeew: )

I have Duke of York in a bag and a casual squeeze around the outside doesn't show any signs of promise.

The best success I've had with potatoes were the volunteer ones which just appeared in my last garden: no watering regime, no earthing up ... they just did their own thing. Bizarre!

:dancy::dancy::dancy::dancy::dancy: Ok @"M" I am now definitely an expert on growing Potatoes (in my dreams:snorky:) however....drum roll, today I opened up another bag of my Jersey Royals that I'd had in the greenhouse until I dragged them out last week due to a serious overcrowding issue. Unlike the 1st bag which was less than useless with B all spuds bigger than a poke in your eye, the 2nd bag contained nearly 3lbs of gorgeous Potatoes. I would have taken a photo of them but they were much enjoyed for supper.Plenty for 6 of us and some left over. The seed Potato in the 1st useless bag had rotted off. The seed potato in this 2nd bag is rock hard and I am wondering if I planted it again would it produce more spuds?

I put four plants into a square metre plot (2 Desiree, 2 Osprey, I think) and they have gone mad.

The perspex sheet is there to partition off a small strip of growing space.

The strings represent my optimistic hopes of germinating hairy gourd (aka Mao Gua) from old seeds but no luck so far.

No - it has done it's job and will gradually fade away.

:grphg: Awww @"M" how kind of you:). I'm just a simple soul really and it doesn't take much to make me happy, well sort of but come to think of it what would really bring a big grin to my face wouldn't be a decent crop of Potatoes, someone giving me an Aston Martin Vanquish however would do the job nicely......in my dreams.
