It's only set frost free, around 1 or 2 degs C at the moment, but temps haven't really dropped much below 7 or 8 the last few nights. When the cold weather returns I'm planning to put a heated propagator in the bottom of the mini-greenhouse, hopefully that should keep them snug. I've got my Siberian tomato plants in there which are supposed to tolerate this sort of cold, well thats what it said on the ebay description

As I'll be changing my 'proper' greenhouse later this year and will need some temporary shelter in my garden, I went ahead and bought one of these. Rain has delayed my additional polytunnel erection so I've put it up early. There's a fair bit of room as they're 1.8 x 2.4 m with lots of headroom (2.4m to apex) and it only took 2 of us about 30 mins to erect. The zip up door is well protected from wind so will be capable of being left open.

Then I started to think about staging and as I've still got 4 of those plastic children's tables (from when my daughter was small) that I now use on the plot for standing plants on, I thought of sticking them in the corners and simply laying some slats I've salvaged from oversize pallets on them.

Next job was some high level shelving, using those same slats for verticals and with the top shelves the same length as below to make things easier next time round. Only 20 screws and a few bits of wire to temporarily hold the verticals in place and it's done. I can now get 480 x 80mm pots in there, mainly sitting in 18x pot trays.

They seem a reasonably cheap way of adding a lot of extra space when it's required at peak growing times (like my current tomato plant explosion), plus they're much heavier/sturdier than ones with thin metal tubes and plastic joints. Spare covers are also available. My only criticism is that the vent doesn't have fly-screen mesh, but I have a roll of the stuff and will remedy that.

P.S. Getting one of those from Greenfingers also enabled me to get a Joseph Bentley potato/lugworm fork for £14.99 free of P&P charges.
