    Hi zig,
My mate makes mead from fermenting honey.
    That's nice.
Used to do the home brew thing but that got stopped when the new management took over.
Might have a go at a smaller batch of high juice hooch.

There were some irishman motocrossers we knew who made their own hooch. They said if it burned with a blue flame they drank it, if a yellow flame they put it in the bike.

    Hi ExL,

That reminds me of an old Freak Brothers comic, when Freewheelin Franklin was explaining the ships medical log to the pirates, "Red and yellow, kill a fellow, blue and white, up all night":loll:

I used to love mead untill the problem with the bees leaving for Melissa Majoria. Now it would cost about £32 per gallon to make for a decent one. Needs maturing for at least a year, also impossible with my wife about, if its fermented, she drinks it.

Like I said, I made another brew on the 16th, with half the sugar., just before i left home tonight, I noticed it had fermented out. Mrs won't be expecting it to be that quick, so I should be safe there.

At the same time, I made a brew of unrefined cane sugar & Molasses, which is still glopping away. Will post my results on that one when I have enough hard evidence to convince Pete the unbeliever:WINK1:

There's a yeast (Alcotec 24 hour Turbo Yeast) that can reputedly produce 13% ABV 'wine' in 24 hours http://www.turbo-yeast.biz/English/TurboYeast4.htm, then fined using 24 hour (Tubo-Klar) finings, but as with all 'turbo yeast' brews is supposed then be charcoal filtered to make it taste acceptable, and possibly also have flavouring added, so a 13% wine in about 3 days?

I think I'll stick to my conventional yeasts and 6 months minimum maturation, but I'm still interested to hear how others fare using these methods .

Following this home brew adventure with interest , if as the news says the price of beer is going up by 30p , that will make it over £1 a blooming pint up north :WINK1: . I may have to start brewing my own again. Pete has some home brew wine from the 70's , in my last house I left a full wine rack under the floor boards vintage circa 1986...could be an impertenent little wine by now.

Ziggy could not work out your signature lyrics. I posted it into Google and got ....................................................................................................................................................................

    Hi Scrungee & Harry,

I didn't know about the charcoal filtering, might consider that one. Didn't order the finings as I thought I had some, but can't find em.

Saying that, i've been drinking a few glasses of the first batch, after the wine & before the rum, its not bad, bit yeasty but thats probably because the campden tablets didn't stop the ferment ( bought them in 1977 so probably past their best )

A few days ago, it was up to 35%

Harry, where did you live, have you still got a key ? I'll bring the nail bar.

Well done on the lyrics, round 2 to you. Mind you, no one else knows we are playing a game.:heehee:

Loved the fact a google brought you straight back here :dbgrtmb:

This thread is so amusing! I can imagine sitting near you lot in a pub, getting progressively inhebriated while huddling over your yeast and homebrew debate.

It's the poor wife who's secretly necking the stuff I feel sorry for!! :D

(ps... I was driven to read this thread by the likes of the thread asking which oscars dress was the nicest :help: so forgive me for intruding. :) )

If you click on the icons once the video has finished, you get a little message saying "Oscars not here right now, oscars gone away"

Always remember my two little ones, playing on the swings in the park when there was a little boy called oscar there with his mum.

Every time his mum called his name, mine would mutter that phrase under their breaths.

Tesco have read this thread and put their high juice up to £1.49:DOH:

That makes my wine go up to about 37p a bottle:DOH:

It has really cleared out now & is tasting most excelent :dbgrtmb:

The mollases & Demarara sugar version is currently reading at 30% abv

It's showing as 99p each online.

Sainsburys have put theirs down to £2 for 2 bottles.

P.S. I saw someone in Morrisons yesterday and their shopping consisted of 6 bags of sugar and 6 bottles of cheap cordial and my wife and I both had the same idea what they were going to do with it.

Cheap cordial is no good, its got sweetners in it. They'll be in for a dissapointment.

I've been a home wine maker for many years now, to the point where I grow fruit trees just for wine making!
Is this something you have just started Ziggy? I have some quite decent recipes if you would like some. :)

    Hi lea,

Started in 1977 with dandelion wine. Think i've made wine from almost everything since then.

Don't make wine from Rowan Berries. Its Horrible :D

This is more a convenience & being skint thing. Cheers for the offer :dbgrtmb:
