Not sure if we should be given a choice, I don't like the sort of social manipulation which is the advertising industry's stock in trade, and think it should be resisted across the board.

While there may be some merit to your argument, Clue, I get the sense that you are speaking from a very personal perspective ;) (Source: based on a recent post of your own).

Your own argument is flawed (and I mean this in the least offensive way!) because, first and foremost, it is sexist! It assumes that a female is utilising/harnessing the spending power of her oh-so-grateful male counterpart and does not take into consideration that females are no longer living in a Dickensian age where they are dependant on a male/sugar-daddy to fulfil their financial whims/fancies!?

If it is a "partnership" then both parties would have equal access to the joint funds and that would irradiate any need for a female to "use/abuse/be oh so grateful for" her man's credit/debit card! She would have her own. :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Equally, there is legislation which absolves a financial institution from recompense *if* the primary account holder of those facilities permits someone to use their card/chequebook as their own! :nonofinger:

Hmm, food for thought (and perhaps - ? - another example of a North/South divide? In which case, put those facial scanners in Northern petrol stations for those women with middle aged sugar Daddies, and leave us, more financially dependent, Southerners well alone!!!) ;)

I know. It was a deliberately 'extreme' example, because I couldn't think of a more realistic one off the top of my head, but the point still stands. Currently who routinely use someone else's card, dilute the buying data of the card holder, making it less valuable because it is less accurate. If you can remove such inaccuracies and at the same time, expose a brand new untapped demographic, then the data becomes much, much more valuable.

It's an interesting discussion. I have an innate objection to being scanned or recorded but don't have a particular reason to be concerned about it. It just smacks of 'Big Brother' (the George Orwell one).

I don't mind them profiling me as they now give me lots of vouchers (money off or extra points) for items I would have bought anyway. They also seem to give me vouchers, for items I wouldn't dream of buying, in an attempt to inveigle me into purchasing new items.

The vouchers I find of most value are those where they're giving me 10p or 7p a litre off my petrol. They're already the cheapest vendors around us so I would buy from them anyway. I bought 100 litres the other day at 10p per L off :blue thumb: and it was £1.27.99 per L.

It is more of an emotional objection than a rational one. But the underlying problem is that we feel that we are constantly being watched and it is all becoming a bit too much.

I get these vouchers too Shiney, but I'm still yet to find their petrol station. Oh yes, I remember now! They haven't built one! The same goes for all those wonderful offers, nights out, short breaks etc. on the strength of points. None of it exists here! :wallbanging:

Google are not only reading all your incoming and outgoing emails, but are also tracking wherever you go

It used to be possible to find a name and address from just a landline telephone number using reverse lookup at 192.com, or using one of their UK-Info Disks (which are still about but are now many years out of date) that would also enable you to find anybody on the electoral role anywhere in the UK.

I don't think you can get reverse directories, now, without paying - and they're only online with a signup.
